A Tribute to the 2011 Season

This season has turned out very well, especially considering how it began. The addition of Tebow at QB in game 7 was a very important move. I think Tim gives the team more to believe in and a spark of energy they badly needed. Denver Broncos won the AFC West, and that hasn't happened in quite a number of years.

A Big Fan Kudos for the moves of John Fox, and the great win over the Steelers in the Wild Card playoff game. So we lost to the Pats last Sunday, big deal. It was a great season overall, and the fans were pumped up like they have not been in a long time.

Tim Tebow blessed the team, and the team blessed him back with improved energetic play, and some big wins when it was really necessary and crucial. Thanks to the Broncos Organization for trusting in Tebow and the rest of the team to bring forth a great season record.

We are really looking forward to next season guys. Great job this year!

Tim Tebow Will Meet Josh McDaniels Again - Small World

Remember Josh McDaniels? Most older Bronco fans would just as soon forget about him, but now there is a new story emerging that he has returned to New England, where the Broncos will be playing on Saturday night for the 2nd playoff game.

Apparently he has been brought back to NE as an offensive assistant just in time for preparation to play the Broncos. Seems kinda fishy to me, but the NFL approved the move and he is there, waiting and watching films. I guess the Rams let him go early, with one more year on his contract for the move.

McDaniels may be getting rich on early contract release deals (oh yeah)

So now the preparation for the Broncos is different than it was back when they last played them and won the game 41 - 23 here in Denver. As an added value in the analysis, Tim Tebow is passing very well, hitting his targets with lobbs and bullets, right on the money. NE has to look at the films and try to figure out how to beat him at running and passing this time.

I guess they just like ol' Josh out there in NE. He gets jobs all over the place, and meets up with the guy he mostly left on the bench during his last year at Denver. To his credit, he at least let Tebow play in what? 3 games? So what can he add to the deal?

Tebow and team will do it differently for sure, adding some new plays and confusing the defense. All Denver has to do is NOT Turn Over The BALL. If you remember back on Dec 18th, they gave up the ball several times to NE, and every time the Pats scored.

Tebow Tweets set a new all time sports event record with 9420 tweets per second. Yes, I said second. Can you imagine all those tweeters out there?

Look up, watch the play, look down - TWEET - look up. Wait for the commercial and TWEET again. I am amazed they like to do that so much. Who can ever get any value out of 565,200 Tweets Per Minute? Who's gonna read that stuff?

Blessing is Back for the Broncos

Today's game against the Steelers shows ya how the blessing has returned to the team. They are also playing quite well too, don't ya think?

So all those dumb announcers could talk about was the "Steelers this, and the Steelers that ..", and it was all too obvious what their bias was (talking about the guys on the TV, not our guys on KOA Radio).

Over this past week there has been one reference after another about how Tebow just can't pass the ball. Yeah sure, so what are those knuckleheads gonna talk about now? Oh they will think up something won't they?

Yes the team played well today. Kudos to them all, and the grand finale' as Thomas turned on the after burners and streaked down the field for an 80 Yard TD. Wow, what a finish that was!

The Blessing is back folks! I am impressed with the execution, and the lack of turnovers too. In fact, we went into halftime with the LEAD! Now wasn't that fun?

Denver Broncos Lose, but Still WIN - What?

Today I have to say that the Broncos did not win, but since Oakland lost against the Chargers, now Denver is still on top of the AFC West. What dramatic irony. It just was not a good game, with several injuries and turnovers (a plague recently), and the outcome was terrible overall.

But Oakland lost, and they are still in the playoffs and number 1 in the AFC West.

Denver Broncos are the Least Worst Team in the AFC West

I am not being critical. They did not play with the desire we saw in past games and they did not execute well as in past games. I am their fan, but they did not do what they know they can do.

I am happy at the outcome, and all this is quite a surprise considering how this has come to be. What can we fans really say? We lost, but we still WON.

Denver Must Win Sunday against Kansas City

There is no alternative to this Sunday's game with the Chiefs. Denver MUST win. After 2 losses this one cinches our place in the AFC West. Kyle Orton has been playing very well for KC, so the common story line is that he is coming to beat the Broncos in order to get back for being cut. Not true. Orton is a pro, and even if he had some feelings of resentment, he would never admit them, and would never say anything of that kind. It is pundits and speculators who say that kind of thing.

Tebow and Team are ready to knock the Chiefs down on Sunday, and after 2 games being played with dropped balls, turnovers, bumbles and stumbles, they will be gunning to WIN, not lose. To them it does not matter about Kyle Orton. He is a guy they liked and respected, but that won't change the goal. Chiefs are in the position to be spoilers, but it ain't gonna happen. Broncos will NOT lose a third game in a row. Let's all watch and see how right I am here.

This is a game the likes of which compares with a playoff contest, and it is just as important to the remainder of this season for the Broncos. The Chiefs on the other hand, have no such stake in the outcome. They will try to win as hard as they can however, never doubt that. Broncos have to execute at a very high level, and they must not allow turnovers, unless it is them getting the ball away from the Chiefs. That is the only turnover allowed on Sunday.

I am thinking they have all the kinks out now. Their momentum is strong, and they do want to win. The funny late night leaches have had their fun making light of Tim Tebow's faith, and every man on the team wants to do his part at a level of 10. I believe they will do it and will win.

Tebow said, “I enjoy big games," he said. "Every game that we’ve played was a big game to get us to this point. But, obviously, this is our next game so it’s our biggest game. We’re excited about it. Ultimately it’s why you play the game -- to get in big situations with an awesome fan base behind you, which we will have on Sunday. It will be a rocking atmosphere, and we’ll be very excited as well.”

For all intents and purposes, this is a playoff game. Broncos 21, Chiefs 10 (my prediction). Broncos are tied for 1st place in the division right now, but a win will make it absolute and it leads to the playoffs. These games are all like the last game of the season, and we pray the Broncos realize that is only the possibility (win and play again).

Denver and Chicago - Ugly Game, Beautiful Win

I was getting bored watching the ugly game between Chicago and Denver yesterday. Neither team was doing much, and by the 4th quarter, Chicago had done just a bit more. If you had taken a poll in the middle of the 4th, most fans would have given it to Chicago.

I had to leave at that time and go with my wife to the store, but of course, they had the game on there too, and here in Colorado there is about nothing as important as the Sunday Bronco game. As the events started to unfold, I wondered if the big W was getting ready to come our way again. Yes, it was and we had another miracle win at the end of the game.

Now we have to be completely fair about this. Matt Prater is the big hero of the day. After 2 very difficult field goals he won it for the Broncos. However that being said, there seems to be something more going on here. To get Prater in position, the entire team, including Tebow, had to outplay the Bears during crucial periods of that 4th quarter.

They did, and they did it in the last 2 minutes again. Who in their right mind could ever bet on such a thing? Nevertheless, they did it again. First thing Champ Bailey said in an interview after the win was, "WOW"!

Barber had the game cinched up, until he first ran out of bounds and stopped the clock. Then he got past the line and was ready to put Chicago in field goal range, and miraculously he coughed up the ball when linebacker Wesley Woodyard reached out and grabbed his right arm. Amazing.

Tim Tebow has started something here. Is faith and prayer a part of it? Well, our Lord does some very unusual things when it casues Him to be glorified. Maybe He is involved in all this. All I can say is that if so, then New England is in for trouble next week. Heh, heh.

Amazing and wonderful. It all happened in the last 2 minutes of the game. Another miracle win. You be the judge as to what is really going on. Tebow and company is making it happen. Do they have a secret Helper from behind the scenes?

Denver against Chicago this Sunday Dec 11th

I predicted 2 years ago that some day the Bears would come to Denver and play us on Sunday, and we would watch Josh McDaniels be humiliated at being beat by the kid he tossed out, Jay Cutler.

Well isn't it funny how things change? Now McDaniels is gone, Jay Cutler is broken, and the Bears are coming to play the Broncos at home against the new unified and motivated team. They have won a streak of games in a row, and they intend on winning this one too.

I believe Tebow and company will win again, but it really shouldn't be easy. Probably will be closely matched through the first and second quarter, after which the Denver Defense will begin to dismantle the Bears and sack the QB as much as possible.

It may again be a last minute win, but I am going to predict a different scenario. As I always say, "if I am wrong, I will admit it", so take my opinion seriously or not. Chicago now has the same record the Broncos have, and matches Detroit as well. The thrashing we got from Detroit will not be repeated by the Bears.

In fact, this team is totally different than the Broncos the Lions played earlier in the season, and if the Bears come in here thinking they will just roll over us, they better think again. Now we also are a 7 and 5 team just like the Bears, the Lions and the Falcons. We sit at the top, while Chicago is in a distant number 2 behind Green Bay.

Oh yeah, the Jets are also 7 and 5. Now I think that is all in that field, so does this prove anything? Heck no, but it fills up this article. Let's have fun this Sunday while we anticipate the Bronco Amazing once again. I am predicting a win again. Especially with Cutler on the DL.

Yes Tebow is the Guy, but No, he won't take credit for wins

Tebow is an All American football hero. He never takes credit, but gives full credit to his Savior, Jesus Christ, and then he gives credit to his fellow team members. I hope this guy never changes. He revives my hope and faith in young people. What a contrast to the sleazey guys defecating on public property in all these occupy deals.

Did you notice the game on Sunday? Did you see the impressive way the whole team is performing with Tebow at the helm? I did, and so did John Elway too. Finally Elway has given some credit to Tim and the team together as being much improved. He talked about that quality of "expecting to win" and he also mentioned that they "believe they can find a way to win" and other similar statements (paraphrased).

So my original position has not changed, and even though I always admit that I could be wrong, I was not wrong about this one. Thank goodness the Broncos decided to play Tebow. I believe he adds a winning attitude and the concept of "Faith" to the mix in the NFL. It is refreshing to say the least.

My Bronco Theory for 2011

I do have a theory about what is going on with our team, the Denver Broncos. For anyone who knows me, this is not surprise.

Over the previous 2 seasons I was very critical of Josh McDaniels for the way he handled the team. He never stopped being stupid about it, and eventually he got fired. That's history.

After this season began I was again worried that John Fox was a carbon copy of McDaniels, but when he finally played Tebow he got my attention. Now I am of the opinion that he is having he time of his life watching the team play so differently with so much individual effort from every team member.

My theory is that Tim Tebow is the spark, but not the whole enchilada. He has faith and a great attitude, and I believe this has rubbed off on the other team members and the outcome is that they give a lot of extra effort to make the W happen.

Nobody can win every game but I now believe the Broncos have a chance to be over 500 at the end of the season and maybe even better.

I am also proud of John Fox and the Bronco management team for allowing this change to happen. It shows that they are not stubborn to the end of the world like that other guy was. Now if you have faith, and if you believe Tim has that connection, get ready for a lot more fun this season.

Life as a Bronco Fan waiting for Sunday

All us Bronco fans get up each day and go to work, button up the old britches, head out for coffee and put up with bad stupid bosses. We all do, and yet when Sunday comes, unless we are unconscious, we are ready to watch the game. That is our life during the regular season. Sure it varies a bit from person to person, but largely, we are all peat and repeat, and we like it just fine.

Last week we watched our team get the better of our bitter rivals, the Raiders. To make it even better, they did it in Oakland. Pays them back for last time. Anyway, the team really took off and they all played a great game. Tebow was not the only star, but all the other guys did their thing well.

The win last week showed the team improving in execution and cohesiveness. They made it happen, and they hammered the win home at the end. Defense and offense did great. A huge improvement over the previous week. Everyone looked much better and the game was fun to watch and everyone was beyond happy at the end.

Now we look forward to Arrowhead where we seldom win. Can they do it? Yes they can and we all know it. However, they will again have to improve over last week to win. This is a process that they are involved in for their fame and fortune, while we go along for the ride and the excitement. If the Broncos win, we do not get a raise, but that's ok.

My crew is ready to sit down and have a great day Sunday. I know the Broncos want to win badly to get in better position in the AFC West. Arrowhead is a bad place for the Broncos, but I am convinced they can win there this Sunday since they have this new team and QB. I am hoping for another ER runback, and a few interceptions.

As I said months ago, if they would play Tebow and allow him to learn the ways of the NFL, he would gradually move up and win. If they had started him at the beginning of the season, I believe we would be at the top of the AFC West now. In time, we can get there anyway. Watch and see what I mean.

A Very Bad Day at Mile High Stadium

The game yesterday was almost a blow out loss. Everyone is in shock at how badly the Broncos played against the highly touted Detroit Lions, a team with a great record this year.

That being said, I certainly do not want to try and brush it under the rug, but we must move forward. My contention has been, and continues to be, that the Bronco management should have been playing Tebow since the beginning of the season.

I have no idea what our record would be if they had traded Kyle Orton before the season began and then played Tebow in every game. How much more cohesive would the team be at this point if that had happened? No one can answer that one.

Let us move forward and live with the loss. The players have to, so we fans must do the same. We have to remain positive and believe that the team is drilling and practicing every day to get better for the coming game next week.

This week, I cannot say I told ya so, and of course I will not. I will say however, that I believe they will do better and this will become a new beginning for the Denver Broncos if the management and ownership will hold on to the goal and work to achieve it, without going into a panic and changing everything again.

Miami challenges the touchdown, it gets reviewed, goes in the Broncos favor, the crowd roars!

Denver scores inside the 2 minute warning, the crowd roars!

Denver converts a 2 pointer after the TD, the crowd roars!

Denver uses the "on side kick", then recovers the ball. The crowd roars!

Denver Defense strips the ball and gets a turnover, the crowd roars!

Denver kicks a field goal to win the game. Again, The CROWD ROARS!

Hate to say I told ya so, but .............. I TOLD YA SO !!!

This amazing game was just a preview of the incredible stuff up ahead since the Bronco management finally decided to play Tebow. Now they do understand. He changed the demeanor of the team. They got excited and happy, motivated to win. They Did WIN !!

Now I hope the management understands why they need to play Tebow!

Brandon Lloyd Heads Over to St. Louis and Josh McDaniels

Reported on ESPN's "SportsCenter" on Monday, Lloyd said he was "extremely happy" with the trade. Although the Rams, winless on the season, have struggled offensively, Lloyd said a "jolt of confidence" could be all that it takes to turn their struggling offense around.

"I don't see a terrible situation. I see it as a positive situation," he said.

Tim Tebow Finally Gets his Change at Starting QB

Tebow is finally going to get his chance to play as the starter.Denver Broncos Head Coach John Fox had to make the switch last Sunday after Kyle Orton couldn't get the fire started against San Diego. Tebow almost won the game, but that was not the most important aspect of it this time. Fox needed proof that Tebow is all he is cracked up to be, and now Fox knows his team has the best chance to win using Tebow.

If Fox had started Tebow from the start, I am guessing the record would be much better, like 3 and 2, or 2 and 3, or 4 and 1. At any rate, there are a lot of games left to allow Tebow to learn how to get his team into the W column. All this time he has been sitting on the bench. What a shame that has been. Now after a bye week, we are all expecting to see him start the next game against the Miami Dolphins in Miami. That game will be on October 23rd.

Many of us sports bloggers and amateur enthusiasts have been saying Tebow should play ever since the season started. We are rooting for him and hoping he can make a great showing and stay in place. Go Tim! I do not care about his celebrity, but others do and every game he plays in will get a wider audience due to his being in the game. I have pointed this out in the past to make the point that the "McDaniels Style" of football management which the Broncos have been using, just does not produce results.

We Lost Again - Shucks - Broncos 1 and 4 - Time to Srart Tebow

Well now Denver is 1 and 4. Orton again displayed his mediocrity, and Tebow demonstrated what I have been talking about all along. He tried to rally the team to victory and almost pulled it off, but the damage done was too great to overcome later in the game.

I keep saying that they should start Tebow. He generates a lot of excitement from the team members, and gets the mindset going in the winning direction. That is an intangible quality which goes along with his abilities to create the opportunity to Win.

Why they decided to start Orton from game 1 forward is a mystery, but now maybe they will be able to see the light. What happened yesterday is a visible and memorable demonstration of what the immediate future could be if they would just do what they should have done in the first place: Start Tebow!

Well there it is, another loss. Guess the Broncos better get used to it because with this current plan, losses are all they will see. This Green Bay offense is more high powered than any they have faced so far, but if that assumption is true, there is a lineup of high powered offenses up ahead, and more losses for the Broncos.

For this game with Green Bay, you cannot make the simple argument that Tim Tebow would have won it hands down, but one thing I do know is that he would have the entire team fired up big time, and they would have played a better game. To what degree is anyone's guess.

Broncos management has set up a mediocre plan, and the result is mediocrity. I guess that is about all we can expect this season. It just makes me wonder because it is reminding me of last year so far.

Even though McDaniels was let go by Pat Bowlen last year, his stubborn spirit lives on here. Now he reigns vicariously through the new head coach, John Fox. Orton, Orton, Orton! Yes, he is the one they want. No matter that it takes a lucky break for him to win a game. Tebow must sit on the bench.

I believe Fox calls McDaniels on the phone at night and asks him what to do. Yeah, I really believe he is doing that. Josh is telling him to play Orton. After all, back when he was on board, he did not let Brandstatter play at all. Tom was the talent we needed then, and Tebow is the talent we need now, but Josh and John keep saying, "Orton, Orton, Orton!"

How long will this go on? When will the Bronco's team management get on board with the needs of the players and the fans? We want some excitement and fun. We are interested in seeing the new talent play.

We want the guy to learn the game right there on the field. We know he will not be perfect, but he will generate interest and excitement for all the fans, the advertisers and for the team itself.

(What if he won some games?)

What kind of football strategy is going on here anyway? These guys are playing it safe and relying on hope and dreams to win, and praying that the fans get excited and happy. I didn't even watch the whole game last Sunday. I want to see Tebow at QB. We have him, and we are not using him. Why not?

What are they afraid of anyway? I suppose they are already considering him for a trade next year. And if they are truly doing this thing the Josh McDaniels way, they will no doubt be drafting a new QB next year.

For Crying Out Loud, what is going on here John Elway?

First they benched Brandstatter, then Tebow. Now next year they will again draft another QB, and HE will sit on the bench for a year. What a tradition this is getting to be!

Obviously every Bronco fan wants the team to win. Some of us older fans remember the Orange Crush Defense and the coming of John Elway into the QB job when he was a rookie. He was a lot like Tim Tebow as I remember, but not nearly as popular of a celebrity. After several years of magnificent teams and players, the Broncos finally won the Super Bowl a few times, and we were all lovin the glory. I was horse aftere many a game, many a time.

Now after the decline Pat fired Mike, and hired Josh. That was a disaster for 2 seasons, but finally Pat did what he had to do and sent Josh packing. Along comes John Fox and here we go again. Wow, they kept Tim Tebow and most of us believed we were going to start over with him just like we did in the Post Morton era with John Elway. Orton is a good guy, a fine player and in light of all that was at stake, the team should have traded him into a new opportunity, especially since they kept Tebow around.

The management did not think the matter through like they should have. For some reason, I believed Elway would save the day and push for Tebow, and since Fox was new I imagined he would agree to that scenario and get to the beginning of what the fans here in Denver believed would be the "New Era of Glory" on the gridiron. But they did not trade Orton. The excuse seemed to be that they simply could not take the chance due to the lockout situation. They needed all the experience on the field they could get. So, Orton was named the starter again.

When I read that morning that Fox has emphatically stated that Orton would be the starter, my heart sank. That is not what the fans wanted at all. After Josh left the Broncos told everyone that the fans would be included in the whole football experience again, just like they were in the days of Mike. Well, some of that was true, but they lost their courage when they averted the QB thing. They played it safe to give themselves that secure feeling that Orton was much improved and would answer the call to win.

Now Kyle has to endure the humiliation of being chanted down on the field by Tebow fans, which is both a vocal minority and a silent majority. I feel badly for him because this should never have happened. Frankly I thought Elway would have the sway in it and bring Tebow in to start and learn. He will learn fast when the Broncos, or some other team give hime the chance. But, they somehow all got together and got scared that Tim might lose a game or two (like Elway did) and they didn't want to invest the games to allow him to find his wind in the game.

I am just a fan, but I do recognize when our team is at a crossroads, and thus far it appears they have taken the low road and the safe road, but it will not yield the results they, or the fans want. Orton deserves better and should have been the starter or number 2 QB on another team. I know he would have flourished in another venue. Here he is doomed to be in the shadow of the guy the fans want to play, win or lose. I am just writing all this to state a point, and I think I have done that.

Whatever happened in that management board room, or office, of wherever they met is unclear to us fans. What is clear is that they are not seeing their big opportunity to launch a new franchise with excitement and huge fan support. Instead they have hunkered down and are hoping for the best. Fans want a winner out there, and since the team has such a person in Tebow, that is who they want to see play. I am disappointed for both Kyle and Tim, because the management has cast them both in the wrong roles.

Oh, there is one more aspect of this which is worth mentioning. Tim Tebow is a humble guy, but he generates so much more excitement out there that the Broncos are missing making more money too, and that really shocks me to realize they are also willing to give that extra money up as well. I had hoped for more from Elway in this deal. Guess after just one game the final answer is still ahead of us, but I just hope these management guys don't wait too long.

Week One and NO "W" Yet

Of all the games to win, this was the big one. No other game in the coming weeks could be as important as this one. Close game, with some missed opportunities on both sides. Great demonstrations of skill and abilities on Defense and Offense for Denver. Kudos where it is deserved for sure, but this one will set the bar much higher now. There are no harsh words for such effort as the Broncos gave. All I can say is that they must win 2 out of every 3 of the next 9 for my math estimates of playoff possibilities.

Every game has a winner and a loser, so not winning is not the most searing thing. It is more difficult with the "L" however, and the team knows it. It was the raiders on the field, so the "L" is harder and more ugly to live with. Raider Haters know this more than others, but still, we root for our team and we need to make the thunder a bit louder I guess.

After the last preseason game and Brady Quinn's rather "less than wonderful" performance, the mystery of who will be the official number 2 QB is getting a bit more clear but it is still a mystery. John Fox apparently does not want to name the number 2 at the beginning of the season just to please the fans, but likes the way Tebow and Quinn compete. I believe he is allowing them to compete each time they play in order to make them play harder and better.

So if this is the case, when will these 2 guys get in the game again? Assuming Kyle Orton does well in the beginning (which is a big assumption) then the other 2 may not get the nod very often at all. But, if we assume more realistically that Orton will falter then the opportunity to see the other guys will come up and all will see who gets the first nod.

On the defensive side, the Broncos signed free agent cornerback Jonathan Wilhite, who is a dynamo player at nickel back. To made room for him, they waived safety Darcel McBath, who was drafted by Josh McDaniels originally. He is not a big loss, especially in liew of picking up Wilhite, who in my opinion will be another cog in the new defensive wheel.

Any guesses on the outcome of the MNF game on the 12th? Any chance we might see Tebow out there?

What A Difference a Fox Makes

Well if you read the sports writer's latest stuff, it is apparent they think Tim Tebow is not on the roster at all. After my post yesterday I am feeling kinda strange, but oh well.

Apparently the Broncos management and team are overly impressed with the new guy, Adam Weber. He must be showing off a bit and hitting his marks because positive is all I am seeing all over the place.

I am a bit bamboozeled by all this now, as I assumed that tebow at least had a chance at number 2, but many are saying he is number 3, and maybe 4.

In my opinion that would be a waste of his enormous talents and potential. Remember how they treated Tom Brandstatter?

I know Elway made comments about Tebow last year and earlier this year, indicating that he saw huge winning attitude and potential for Tebow. Now he is saying this:

“Obviously, there is an investment, and there will always be an investment in first-round picks,” Elway said Monday. “But the bottom line is, our responsibility is to do the best we can to win football games, and we’ve got to figure out the best thing to do to accomplish that. And I think ultimately that’s what fans want.” link

When you consider Tebow's local and national celebrity, he is not hurting in any way except when looking at what his role on the Broncos will or will not be. Otherwise he is a multi-millionaire with youth and a future, not matter where he lands.

Personally I want him to play, so you can be danged certain the Bronco management will NOT do that. I should stop :)

I distinctly remember when John Elway started for the Broncos many years ago. Back then, the management and owner were younger and more brave, capable of taking a real gamble on the ability of the overall team to support their chosen QB, namely John Elway.

Yeah I know, they had a big Orange Crush then too, but heck, we still have big guys on defense don't we?

Point here is that they took on Tim Tebow as a QB for the team, then sat him on the bench last year most of the time. Now they are again wanting to "play safe" by starting the steady and dependable Kyle Orton. I like Orton and I know he is improving all the time, but he is not an explosive and flexible type of QB.

Get Tebow out there and trade Orton, or trade Tebow and launch it all with Orton. My preference is to start Tebow simply because he reminds me of John Elway in the younger days. John got to take the helm, even before he became a great QB.

Elway made a lot of mistakes, experienced many bad games, saw some minor injuries and all that. Why not allow Tim Tebow to jump in and get some real hard boiled experience? Trial by fire is the quickest learning curve process. John did it. Tim can do it too. I know he is willing.

The Broncos are playing it safe. Let's see if Kyle can lead the team to a win against the Raiders on Monday Night Football. Remember last year?

Getting Closer to Monday Night with Oakland

Well it is only a few short days until that first regular season game happens here in Denver. Oakland Raiders and Monday Night Football - What a combo, especially for the first game of the season.

Fox has named Kyle Orton as the starting QB, which is no surprise to me, since he is still here in town. Although I thought it possible for him to be traded away.

"Every year I have better talent around me," Orton said. "I'm not going to lie, that's the most important part about playing quarterback, is having good players around you." I really like Kyle Orton. He is a player's QB, not a braggart or a showboat. He is a good sport and improves a little bit every year.

The question now is about who gets the number 2 job. Certainly Brady Quinn gave a stellar performance and so did Tebow. Tebow seems to have a better pass completion percentage so far, but Quinn has been more productive at getting points on the board.

So the competition is still on, and during the next 3 weeks we will see the fine tuning start to happen further into the roster. I predict Tebow will win the number 2 spot, but Orton still may be displaced if Fox does some additional substitution during that first 3 games.

The offensive line is looking good thus far, and the defense up to now has been a big improvement over last year, and that is remarkable since we have seen what, 2 games? Anyway, this team is shaping up quickly and I am really looking forward to seeing that game on Monday

Terrelle Pryor has been traded to Oakland, and has to stand down for the first 5 games due to his troubles from last year. No big loss as far as I am concerned. LenDale White was released a few days ago, and in my opinion they did that to get rid of the future injury liability he represents.

I am looking forward to a productive and winning team attitude from these players, and so far I like John Fox a lot. What an improvement over the other guy last year.

Matt Prater Gets a DUI and Leaving the Scene

A recent story in the Denver Post reports that Denver Bronco kicker Matt Prater had a wild night on August 2nd, where it is alleged he was under the influence of alcohol and had an accident, then fled the scene. He was found by Police at a nearby hotel where he was staying. This is really bad news as the season is just about to begin. Prater is a good kicker, and is needed by the team. I am certain this whole thing will result in a suspension by the NFL, but no news of that is forthcoming now.

The NFL lockout is over and the team is back to a very late training camp. This morning at 8:00 am, they reported to Dove Valley for their new training schedule and other instructions, and of course to workout.

This is all good news, and in my case, cause for going back to work and getting ready for the season.

Here is the latest information for all us fans who will be going to the practices. This comes from the Denver Bronco Website.

The team will practice at its headquarters -- the Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Centre -- in Englewood, Colo. Come out for a chance to see the club as it prepares for its first season under Head Coach John Fox.

Will There Be Football by August 7th or Not?

Preseason begins on August 7th, normally a time of great anticipation. Usually we are all waiting to see the newly drafted players come and show off their talents. This year of course, things are really different. First of all, there hasn't even been a draft, or even trades while the lockout holds everything up.

Now really folks, are the NFL owners actually going to allow the preseason to NOT Start? They make money from many sources, including ADS, during that time too. They must end this or they will actually begin Losing Kaching. NFL owners do not like to lose money. Ya think?

There are some new rumors floating about that might indicate things are getting closer to a solution for both sides. Most of the stuff is already agreed upon, with just a few remaining. Makes sense to me that these guys get it finished and then they can hurry up and draw up some trades and start training camp.

By the time the players take the field, they will still be sore from workouts the day before. What about playbooks? Fat chance of memorizing them in time. They will just have to learn it on the fly.

Owner and player revenue splits have already been agreed on, and free agency rules as well. Sure seems like the deal is getting closer. Last week the players revealed their secret insurance deal they have that would pay every one of them 200K if the owners cancel the season.

Now what owners do you know that would actually do that? Let's see this get ironed out and get ready for some football.

Former Broncos DL Duranko Dies

Pete Duranko, a former Bronco defensive lineman, died yesterday following a long and difficult battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was 67 at the time of his death.

During his playing years, Pete was commonly known as "Diesel Duranko" for his bruising, smashing play on the field. He died in his hometown of Johnstown, Pa., on Saturday.

Duranko became a national spokesman for ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) after his diagnosis about 10 years ago. Pete is highly regarded by many for his work.

His wife Janet said of him, "Pete was such a fighter. I've never seen anybody fight so much in my whole life. Just last Friday he attended his high school reunion. But it was a blessing that he passed, because it was getting very hard at the end. He spent a lot of time over the last six months in hospice care."

Diesel Duranko had 76 starts and played in 98 games with the Broncos.

David Brunton Tired of Waiting, Starts Teaching School

This is great stuff. David Brunton got tired of waiting for camp to start and the lockout to end, so he became a teacher. Apparently he is highly educated and is qualified for this activity, so Bravo for David. I love stories like this one.

NFL Safety Brunton Takes up Teaching

The NFL player naturally taught social studies because he majored in sociology at Notre Dame. But math came as a total surprise, he says. The last time Bruton took math courses was his first year in college. “I was definitely in the books, on my iPad looking up how to figure out quadratic equations and finding out angles,” he says.

Calling teachers “the guiding source of our youth,” Bruton says no one in such a position should take it lightly. He describes the challenge of constantly being on the move in classrooms: “You go around, helping them out individually, and you’re constantly using your brain, especially teaching stuff that you — in my position — haven’t done in six years.”

[This week, the NFL owners and Commissioner Roger Goodell wrapped up league meetings on a very positive note. Goodell briefed the owners on the latest negotiations with the players for a new collective bargaining agreement. "It was a good day in the sense of we had a full discussion on the issues," Goodell said after the meeting.

Representatives for the players and owners met yesterday and today for their fourth round of face-to-face negotiations. Now, the meetings don't guarantee a deal, but it does prove that each side is willing to work to strike a deal soon, with NFL training camps set to open up in just under a month.

"This is the season to get something done, this is the time to get something done," Colts owner Jim Irsay said. "The energy has to continue from both sides, because it's always fragile and difficult... I think both sides really want to get something done at this point. In talking to people from both sides, I get that feeling."

Are we closer to a deal? Yes! But we aren't at the finish line just yet.]

Teams like the Broncos at a disadvantage after the lockout is over

I know everyone is saying they are not worried about the end of the lockout (presuming there is an end in time for a season). Bronco Head Coach John Fox is saying (paraphrased) that all the teams will be in the same place, with no time to work the playbook, work on execution, try out different players and all that. However, there are a few teams including the Broncos, with all new management.

New management and new head coaches, new defensive coordinators, offensive coordinators and a bunch of new players. All this means, in my humble opinion, that these teams with the most "people changes" will be at the disadvantage by comparison to the many other teams with little or no change to walk in with. Doesn't it make sense that the teams that have not all worked together before have the most challenges?

Anyway, all this is academic at this point but I am worried that this lockout is going on too long for comfort. I totally believe the players are not as worried as the coaches and management staff are, and of course those folks like Fox, Xanders and Elway are NOT going to admit this simple fact. It might be an admission the players could use as a crutch, if that were to happen.

I am just saying it "could happen" and not that it definitely will go that way. It is never easy to begin a new season under the best of circumstances, but the deal they have now is terrible for everyone. My feeling is that IF the season begins about the normal time somehow, the teams who have had the least changes in personnel and management are the teams which might do the best as it starts out.

7 or 8 games later it is anyone's game again, so my comments are only pertaining to the first part of the season, whenever it might begin. We need a miracle on this one, or the NFL will consist of Highlights from past games. I wonder how long that will sustain the fans?

Analyze the Broncos, or Take a Nap - What to Do, What to Do?

Good grief, the news lately is just about as contrived as it can get isn't it? I mean, Tim Tebow Tim Tebow, Tim Tebow. John Elway this, John Elway that, and so on. Nothing is known about the agreement we are all waiting for, and there is nothing for pundits to do besides write about what Tim or John are doing.

One thing I have noticed is the extreme notoriety Tebow is getting. Let's see now, did he play last year? Oh yeah, didn't he start that last game? What the heck is going on anyway? How is he getting so famous and turning into a celeb? What is this really about?

He is certainly a likable young man in interviews and guest appearances. No doubt about the fact that he kinda plays to the base of fans he is getting all across the nation. Beyond his new book, "Through My Eyes" what else has he done of any significance? Is his purpose really football or something else?

If we boil down all the HYPE, there are still 3 QBs currently working for the Broncos. Orton, Quinn and Tebow. I already know Elway likes Tebow, but I also know John is not a dumb guy, and he is going to see how these guys compete on the field first, before handing the team over to Tim.

Orton and Quinn have not reached the entire nation the way Tebow has due to his "Pro Life" positions, his TV show stuff and his book. They seem more ordinary and humble in their lives as far as us fans can see. In fact, back when Elway was new, he could not hold a candle to the likes of what Tebow is doing. The big question for me is, "What does all this HYPE and media flaunting have to do with the NFL and the Denver Broncos"?

Another question for me and other fans I know has to do with Tim Tebow's overall abilities as a QB in the NFL. What has he really done so far? He did pull off a few good plays last year whenever McDiddle allowed him into the game. He looked more like a running back than a QB, but heck that is exactly why they sent him in those times. He can really play about any position can't he?

Here is another scenario I like to consider:

Tim Tebow finally gets to play, and John Fox assigns him to various positions on both sides of the ball. On one series, he takes some snaps and runs in for touchdowns. In another he plays outside Linebacker and takes out the other team's QB as he sniffs out the play. Later, he delivers Gatorade to Orton after he gets tired and sweaty.

Sound good? My point here is that NO MATTER what Tim Tebow does, his big fan base all over the country will be watching. Imagine the big new audiences the Broncos will get with him playing! They will make some big bucks as the audience share soars up and up. Do you suppose the Bronco management has considered this yet?

This is getting to be a pretty funny story that could only have become a story during this mid-twenty first century and during the NFL Lockout, where news of any note is hard to come by.

Apparently this punk rock band has named itself "Elway" with the purposeful intent of getting attention in the state of Colorado and in Denver. Elway himself has nothing to do with the rock band at all, and is not wanting his last name to be honored in this fashion.

So just for chuckles and grins, here are some stories about this which you will probably either get mad about, or that will make you laugh a bit.

Denver Broncos Team up with 9 News Denver

On Thursday, the Broncos announced that KUSA-TV -- better known in the Denver area as 9NEWS -- is the team's official television partner, effective immediately.

The club and the NBC affiliate, reached a two-year agreement.

Marcell Dareus can't wait until December 24th to play the Broncos

There is such a lack of interesting news out there now that even this little bit of a story is kinda fun. Boring, but fun nevertheless.

Apparently Marcell Dareus, defensive tackle from Alabama, was expecting to be drafted by the Broncos. When they instead picked Von Miller, it is rumored Dareus didn't like it one bit.

In this story here Dareus exclaimed, “Denver, I’ll get a chance to play them in the regular season and I’m going to make it hell for them every time I play against them,” Dareus said in a radio interview with Michael Irvin.

Who can ever tell what goes through the minds of football management anyway? Dareus was the leading consideration for Defensive Tackle, a huge need for the Broncos as part of the new beefing up of the Defense. He stayed connected to them right up until the pick, and it was Miller, not him.

So Marcell got picked by Buffalo Bills, and he purportedly cannot wait until he gets a chance to punch some holes in the Bronco Offense on December 24th.

That is, if there is a game on December 24th !!

Broncos are working out at Dawkins' behest

Earlier this week Brian Dawkins sent out an email to all Denver Broncos inviting them to practice and work out together. 15 players showed up at the South Suburban Sports Dome last Tuesday, and Kyle Orton tossed passes to Eric Decker.

Bronco coaching staff are not allowed to view the practices due to the current lockout.

"This not about one way being the right way or another way is the wrong way," Dawkins said after the workout. "This is about providing a safe haven for those who want to come out and work."

Speculation about the Lock Out and the Future of the NFL

I am not by any means an expert, but in listening and watching the goings on around this lockout, the court's intervention and all the media babble, I have a negative feeling about the future of the NFL.

From all I can find, the NFL owners are claiming that 60% of all combined revenues are going to pay player's salaries and bonus compensation packages. The owners and the NFL are further claiming that they do not need to provide any proof of these claims to the player's union either, and they have to believe them, period!

What do we fans have to do in order to get these big money guys to cooperate? Do we need a grand jury or something? Good grief man.

Another sticky point of contention seems to be that the owners want 18 games in the regular season on top of pay cuts for most NFL players. Well, from a player standpoint I can understand why they would balk at the notion of more games for less money.

I know some of the players make big huge amounts of money. Most of the players in the league do not make millions however, and the biggest problems will be for the newer players who have only been there for less than 2 years and maybe haven't yet learned how to manage money.

As a fan, I see gloom and doom unless the NFL owners open up the "Secret Files" and prove their claims for the union guys to see, and then maybe some compromises could be reached, but until then it seems like there will be a FOOTBALL-LESS 2011 season.

Listening to Adam Schefter talking on the radio yesterday with Dave Logan on KOA, he mentioned his secret source indicated to him that the NFL owners are dead serious about making the changes they want and that way bad things could happen if they don't get their way.

The NFL could simply go out of business, then change their name and re-open the doors as a new entity, and invite everyone to come on in an renegotiate a contract and play again, for a lot less money. In my mind that would be really evil and greedy, and probably would be followed by many lawsuits for an eternity into the future.

Things look bad right now. I want these guys to get together and work this out, or they will lose several million fans forever. I really believe that.

On the third and last day of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Oklahoma safety Quinton Carter with the 108th overall pick and then made their second trade of the draft.

The team traded a fifth-round (no. 141 overall) and a sixth-round (no. 189 overall) pick to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for an extra fourth-round (no. 129 overall) and a seventh-round (no. 204 overall) selection.

With the fourth-round pick they aquired in the trade, the Broncos selected tight end Julius Thomas, a converted basketball player from Portland State.

The team also chose Cal linebacker Mike Mohamed with the 189th overall pick in the sixth round, and closed the draft with two seventh-round picks in Nevada tight end Virgil Green (no. 204 overall) and Oklahama defensive end Jeremy Beal (no. 247 overall).

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- After trading the No. 36 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to San Francisco for the 45th, 108th and 141st picks, the Broncos had back-to-back picks at 45 and 46 in the second round.

With those selections, the team picked UCLA safety Rahim Moore (pictured above) and Miami offensive lineman Orlando Franklin.

RAHIM MOORE

Moore starred at defensive back for the UCLA Bruins, leading the nation with 10 interceptions as a sophomore and earning first-team All-America honors from scout.com.

As a junior last season, Moore's interception totals dropped, but he was still named a first-team All-American by The Sporting News.

"Every year you’re not going to have your best stats," Moore said at the 2011 NFL Scouting Combine. "But I think this year I showed more I can come downhill, tackle and made other plays. Interceptions are not everything. You have to make tackles for loss, sacks and pass breakups. I think I showed what I can do."

In his career, the 6-foot, 202-pound safety accumulated 186 tackles, 14 interceptions, 15 pass breakups, four fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

"If a team drafts me they won’t have to worry about the safety position for the next 10-12 years," he said at the combine. "I believe I’m special, and I mean that in the most humble way. I’m going to get in early. I’m going to leave late. I’m going to put in the same amount of hours, maybe more than the coaching staff."

While he played safety for the Bruins, he said he wouldn't be opposed to translating his game to the cornerback position if it was required of him.

"Sometimes you would come to my practices and think I’m a corner, because you might see me pressing up or making plays out there," he said. "I’ve been blessed with some corner skills. Whatever a team needs -- strong safety, free safety, corner -- when you play secondary and love football you should be able to play all three positions."

"During my whole life I’ve never sat down, even my freshman year," he said. "I started 37 consecutive games. My main goal is to go in there and learn, then be able to succeed and make plays."

ORLANDO FRANKLIN

Franklin played in 51 games for the Miami Hurricanes, making 39 starts from 2007-10. The two-time All-ACC honoree helped the Canes offense rack up the second- (2010) and fourth-most (2009) yards in school history.

He played three seasons at guard, but moved to offensive tackle last season as a senior.

“I’ll play any position they’ll have me at," Franklin said at the combine. "If you look at the situation, I’m more comfortable at guard because I’ve been playing it for three years, but if they need me to go in and get it done at tackle I can definitely get it done.”

He did hint that he likes playing inside on the line -- "I feel as if I'm a beast at guard," he smiled -- but he said that with a little technique work, he could be "a great tackle in the NFL."

Franklin's story began in Jamaica, where he was born. His mother left him there at age 2 to move to Toronto, and once she got her paperwork as a legal Canadian citizen, she brought him with her to Toronto.

When he was 15, he decided he wanted to play football, and felt Florida would be the best place for his career to get started. So his mom quit her job to help Franklin follow his dream.

"I've got a great mom that will do anything to see her children succeed," he said. "She’s definitely been there for me for 100 percent and I wouldn’t be anywhere without her.”

CONFERENCE CALLS

On a conference call with the Denver media, Moore said he can't wait to play alongside Brian Dawkins.

"I wish I could meet him professionally where he could never age and me and him could play for several years," he said. "I'm excited to learn from a hall of famer and Champ Bailey These guys are my favorite -- Champ and BD -- ever. You know, I even have a picture of them on my phone and my laptop. I'm a huge fan. I can't wait to get hooked up with them and get to work."

He said he's already excited about the Broncos' 2011 draft class, with Denver still holding five more picks on day three.

"Defense wins championships," Moore said Von Miller is a big-time talent. He has every little bit of a second (overall) pick you can think of. He's just that type of guy. I can't wait to make plays on the field with him."

Finally, he said he met Shannon Sharpe in New York and got him to sign a Broncos helmet. He said he had an inkling Denver would be the team that would take him.

"I was confident at the combine I was a possible pick, but when I woke up I knew I was going to be a Bronco," he recalled. "I just felt it; I knew what they needed. I'm excited; I can't wait."

"Today I feel like I went No. 1 overall. I'm so excited. I can't wait to get to work and get to Denver."

As for Franklin, he told the Denver media that the team told him he fits in at right tackle on the offensive line.

"I am a physical player that is going to do whatever he can to get on the field as quick as possible and that is going to work hard for 60 minutes and bust my behind to make everyone around me better," Franklin said.

He emphasized that his physicality is his biggest strength.

"I like to think of myself as the most physical offensive lineman that was in this draft, and I am looking forward to bringing that nature to the Denver Broncos."

Von Miller picked by Broncos in NFL Draft

It was obvious that Von Miller was the guy the Broncos wanted from the start. After Carolina announced their first pick, the Bronco war counsel knew they had their favorite for the Defense. Reference - Draft

John Fox did a press conference afterward and made it very clear that the goal is to bring back the power of the D in Defense, so they took the most outstanding linebacker in the nation, and this is what Fox had to say about him:

"He's a rare talent, there's no doubt," he said. "I've been doing this, this is my 23rd draft, and he's got those rare abilities, the things you can't coach. He's got a lot to learn, this is a level jump, it's a different game at this level as far as the type of plays you see and the type of offenses you see, but he has a lot of ability. It's not just the speed, it's the quickness, the explosion, the length of his arms -- his first step is as good as I've seen. There are a lot of tools that we can work with. He seems to have that uncommon ability to be great, as far as the want-to. He's a great young man, we feel like he'll represent our organization very well. We're just excited to have him and feel great about his abilities both on and off the field."

Lockout Lifted and Broncos return to Training Camp

Due no doubt to the recent court ruling, players are being welcomed back to training camp at Dove Valley. About 10 Broncos showed up and and were told they would be able to work out, but not yet. Joe Ellis told them that the orgainzation has to get some rules and guidelines from the NFL first.

Apparently the NFL has sent a memo to all the teams instructing them to allow the team players on the facilities, and that trades and draft related procedures would be coming later. All of this is happening so fast that the team management has not had time yet to define exactly what they will be doing.

I am personally happy to hear this is breaking after the court ruling, but hoping the Bronco organization will hurry the process and get the players familiar with the new playbook for this year. They need to read through it and begin digesting the information before training camp officially begins later on.

I am very happy to see this new set of circumstances, although there is a lot of unresolved issues for the players and their families remaining. I was a member of a strong union for 30 years, and I believe in collective bargaining as being the best method of making these players secure in their jobs.

New Broncos Rebuild Stifled by Lockout

Whatever you want to say about the lockout, it is definitely a bad thing for our Denver Broncos who are in a rebuilding mode at present.

After getting Elway in the head office and finding a new head coach, the Broncos would like to be working out and making some trades, but all these things are barred by the lockout. It is a very bad situation for teams starting over.

Another aspect is that the team has made big statements about being more about the fans and opening more lines of communication to the fans. At this point no one can blame the Broncos for this lockout. My personal opinion is that if it were up to Pat Bowlen, there would be no lockout.

When this deal finally gets done, I hope there will be time to do some flash trades before the season begins. Denver needs to beef up the Defense, and perhaps find a new 3rd position QB. I believe they will trade Kyle Orton. Most fans believe Fox will start Tebow, but now the official position is that Orton is the starter.

This lockout is frustrating to the fans, team management and the players. All we can hope for is a quick resolution, or the team will not have time to trade and train, and then it will be Orton at the helm again, even though I believe he is not the franchise QB of the future.

Recent indications from Dove Valley are leaning towards not being sure about starting Tebow even if the lockout ends now. Fox and Elway both have said things like "he has a lot to learn" and of course, no one will argue with that. He excites the fans and the other players, and he is talented, so most fans want management to run with him.

Denver needs the lockout to end. It is stifling the progress of having a fighting chance to produce a winning season in 2011.

Lockout Stops Draft and Trades Until Resolved

When the NFL Lockout started on Friday, it stopped the deals that were about to be made, including trades and the upcoming draft. All these activities have to wait until the matter goes back to the table and a new agreement, or a temporary operating agreement can be reached. Simple - No trades or draft.

There are a whole ton of questions that informed fans have about all this, and I have answers, kinda anyway. Free Agency on Hold as Potential Lockout Looms

Now that the Free Agency period in March has been suspended, the looming prospect has fans depressed and bewildered. Where is the light on this?

Roger Goodell and NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith have purposefully been quiet towards the media this past week on the talks. No good news, no bad news, just no news.

One very big item in the talks will no doubt be the NFL owner proposition of a new 18 game schedule with (we assume) no change in player compensation. That is just one aspect though, as there is a safety concern over all the new NFL player safety rules and the installation of a longer season.

Imagine the difficulty of ironing all this out along with the other issues they have on the table. Already, several player groups around the nation are organizing private workout sessions to replace their normal team facility training camps. That is great, and the fans love to hear this but what about medical care in case of a lockout?

Let's just hope Smith and Goodell and their teams of negotiators can hammer out the deal or a lockout is going to interrupt the season, delay the season, or ruin the season. I can assure you that money is always the biggest issue, as with any business and labor deal.

Throughout the years, I have waited in vain for a LB with the talent of Randy Gradishar to enhance the ranks of the Denver Broncos, but it has never happened. It was my pleasure to watch this amazing guy hunt the ball and make the defensive plays for many years, and so far, there has not been another LB who has even come close to his performance.

I also have been disappointed that Randy has not yet made it into the Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OHIO over the past several years. I now ask everyone to start a campaign to get the bone heads to vote him in next time. It is his turn, and his time really has come. This has to happen in my opinion.

Randy Gradishar should be recognized for his tremendous contribution to the Denver Broncos during the years we called his squad The Orange Crush.

As time marches on, Kyle Orton is still being "Started"

Recently John Elway stated that Orton would be the named "Starter" for the Broncos. Huh?

Everyone was blown away by this, but then a few days ago John Fox, the head coach said the same thing, and again, fans who get caught on camera keep expressing surprise at this.

So I ask you, "Why are they saying Orton is the Starter"?

Here is what I think about it. Trades have not even started yet, and will next month. Even though Orton is being called the "Starter", he could be traded in March or April. Would you be surprised at that kind of action on the part of the Broncos?

Well, you should not be! There is a labor problem right now and they have no idea how it is going to turn out. They have to name a starter, so they name Orton. It pleases the player's union, and it pleases Orton, and it sets him up for a trade.

In all probability, Tebow will be the QB Starter for the Broncos in September when (gasp, we hope) the season begins. By that time, Orton will no doubt be gone to his new home as a back up QB in another franchise.

In my opinion, naming Orton keeps things smooth for the Bronco organization with the upcoming labor negotiations, and presents unity in the front office between Elway and Fox. The real long and the short of all this naming is ....

It really doesn't mean anything, and Kyle Orton knows this. It is a show, and he is part of that show. Later we will see after the contract is finished, that the Broncos will trade for a new backup (number 3), and here is how it will all look:

A Lockout Looms if Negotiations Break Down, and Medical Issues?

One thing many never think about is the medical aspect of a lockout. If the deal gets stalled and the lockout happens, the medical attention received by injured players can end for the duration of the lockout.

The other aspect is health insurance for the player's families. I believe that gets suspended during a lockout as well, making it the personal responsibility of each player. Not that these guys are broke, I'm just sayin they need to do it.

This all pertains to rehab too. Right now many injured players are getting rehab at the Bronco Dove Valley facility, which would also end in a lockout.

Demaryius Thomas is scheduled to have surgery on his achilles tendon in a few days, and that rehab is very serious and should be totally under the supervision of "The Greek" at Dove Valley, but if the lockout happens, that will end.

I personally hope they get the 2 sides working and can avoid the lockout, because it severely affects the good professional rehab, ongoing medical care and family medical benefits. There will be a pretty banged up team of it were to go into the regular season.

The deadline is coming up in early March (the 4th I think), so let's all hope this gets resolved before then.

My Apologies for Not Blogging for a Long Time Bronco Fans

Can't figure out what to do exactly. I am busy now with all my other online activities, including my new outdoor gear site I have been building called GEARSELLERS.

Haven't had much time to form new opinions of the team, much less contribute to the community the way I used to.

I feel badly about this, and I apologize if anyone is still out there taking a look at it daily, weekly or whenever.

The things that have happened over the last 2 years have been very discouraging to me, and I have lost some interest, especially during the off season and before the trades.

I promise to have another look later on in March. I may not dump it, but sure don't know if I am going to continue or not.

Shannon Sharpe Lands in the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Collective bargain upcoming, possible lockout, repetitive jargon on QB

Yes the collective bargaining to get a new contract between the owners and the players union in the NFL is a factor in the matter of who will be the named starter for Denver.

Everyone, including Elway, is saying Orton is the starter. This is not what the fans expected at all. Fans have seen enough of Orton, even though at times he has done quite well. Most Bronco fans want a sweeping change, including trading Kyle Orton and naming Tim Tebow as QB.

If fans could "vote" the QB in, it would be Tebow and a new trade for number 3, leaving Quinn at backup. Guess what?

If the collective bargaining meetings break down and a lockout happens, then the coaches will have no contact with the players and visa versa. Under law, they will not be allowed to talk to each other, and what if this deal extends into the season in 2011?

Denver Broncos have confidence in Tebow, but not so much that they want him starting without good quality coaching happening during the preseason and the regular season. Hence, they are all stating that Orton is the starter, and more then likely even if the new agreement is reached, he will retain that position.

Later on, as the season gets underway, and under the best of circumstances the new agreement is reached, then the starter position will be up for grabs by Tebow if he performs well in practice and proves his abilities and worthiness. After a game or two, the change could be made.

It is now all up in the air, and the only veteran they have for the position is Orton, so he is the guy. So, just like last year all you hear is "Orton is the starter".

Jay Cutler disappoints Again - Darn it Jay, What the Heck?

I watched the game yesterday between the Packers and the Bears, and I am really bummed man.

Jay Cutler's Knee Injury ........................... etc, yada yada

At the end of the first half I was still rooting for the Bears and I was thinking that Cutler and his team got this far, and maybe they could actually wind this up with a win somehow.

For awhile it looked kinda like maybe, but then he hurt his KNEE?

I just wanted the Broncos to watch Cutler win, and kick the dirt clods around for awhile. I never liked trading him away but my fantasy was not to become reality.

What the heck Cutler? You coulda showed them guys how bad wrong they were but you hurt your knee.

When you make that much money, there is no real power behind it. McDaniels and Cutler should open a restaurant or something.

Broncos organization is losing fan respect slowly over time

This can change of course, with the first winning season. However, for that to happen after a crash like the Broncos have had is unlikely for quite some time. It may take 4 years to regain the lost good will of fans. Fans are important to any team in any city. Too bad they didn't pay any attention to us fans when they hired that other guy 2 years ago. We saw what was happening right away, but apparently the Broncos management never read our atricles and blogs.

Water under the bridge I suppose.

Anyway, I wish the Broncos all the best, and I will be watching as I always do. I am not very optimistic at this point, but as usual I could be wrong. I think it will be several years before the team arises from the ashes.

John Fox is the new Bronco Head Coach - My commentary

Recently fired from the Carolina Panthers after a 2 and 14 season there, John Fox comes in to take the head coaching job. Other top contenders were not interested and didn't even come for interviews, but John Fox did, and when he got here he sold himself to John Elway and Pat Bowlen too.

He arrived at DIA with a kinda Bronco style suit, orange tie and blue shirt. I knew right when the reporters met him there that he wanted the job since he tried to get the colors right. With all that prefacing, I know Fox is a good coach. He did succeed in turning the Panthers into a winning franchise until this past season.

Elway and Bowlen had very positive comments about him, and I am not one to doubt his abilities. I am wondering of course, if he will make Tim Tebow the franchise QB or try to convince Elway on bigger fish for that job. That remains to be seen and we will find out in the next few weeks and months.

Elway said, "He has great football wisdom, and I think that's from a combination of being in a lot of different places, and having worked for a lot of great coaches and most of all experience."

He had a very bad time this past season of course, and got fired. I wonder if the Denver Broncos have lost some of their high regard in the League after the 2 years with McDaniels?

Bowlen said. "I think he can come in here and turn this organization around. I don't have any doubt about that and I'm going to give him all the help that he needs."

All I can add it that he really needs to publically state that Tebow is his guy for QB, or all the Bronco's plans to reconnect with the fans will be lost in space.

Just my opinion of course.

Champ Bailey Set to Become Unrestricted Free Agent

Champ Bailey is a cornerstone of this team. He is well respected and admired by fans, and most of us hope he can stay with the Broncos. Unfortunately, last summer the talks on his contract were suspended and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

He wants to stay, and when he says that I believe he means it, but he is not going to take a step down in pay to have that happen. I do not know the figures, or if money is the problem, but I suspect that if he could have his current deal extended he would stay for another season.

Elway praised him, but kinda put off any solid commitment until after the new head coach is hired. That means it could be awhile until we learn of Champ's possible directions. Rumors are one thing, but it is the reality that counts, so whatever rumors are circulating, I don't care. I just want them to keep him. He is worth the deal he currently has.

He is a guy that I know if I was under center and I looked out there and saw 24 out there, I would want to go the other way like everybody has. The announcement we have all been waiting for has arrived. When you combine this with a new franchise QB in Tim Tebow, all that remains in the new foundation is the HEAD COACH position. Once the new HC is named, real good things can happen. No more trading great players due to their disposition. No more stupid moves during the draft. These guys will be focusing on DEFENSE this time, while they groom, train and mold the OFFENSE. Good things are ahead for Bronco Fans.

The Broncos have named John Elway as the team's Executive Vice President of Football Operations and appointed Joe Ellis to Team President.

The Hall-of-Fame Broncos quarterback will oversee the head coach and GM Brian Xanders. Elway will also lead the team's head coaching search.

The team will announce the hiring at a 1:30 p.m. MST press conference. DenverBroncos.com will live stream the media session.

Denver's last season game is lost, but hope lives on for Tebow

Tim Tebow has played his 3rd straight game as starter tonight, and even though the team lost, it is easy to see the future of our team being led by the fired up QB. He creates excitement and gives the other team members the desire to win. He leads by example. He plays hard and intends to win. He will win many times in the future, and the team will benefit from having him on board.

We have been without a franchise QB for 2 seasons now, and that ends this night. From now on we have our QB and the future is very bright. Brandon Lloyd also adds his own bit of fire to the deal, creating excitement and making plays to show he will be the favorite target of Tebow for many games to come.

I have never seen a QB scramble like Tebow, and that includes Elway back when he started. In fact, I have watched a lot of teams play and until today I did not know the meaning of the word scramble. Tebow is totally determined to make the play, even when option one and two are impossible. He creates a 3rd option to make the play work.

My prediction is that Tebow will take the Broncos and their talented new team to great places next year and beyond. Our next meeting with the Chargers next season will be one to watch. The Denver team will show up to win, and they will win. This is a winning team and we will all see that next season. Even if we don't win the SB, the next season will be the most memorable in several years.

Prediction - Next year we will see Kyle Orton come to Denver and play a game against the Broncos matched up against Tebow. It will be fun. I wonder which team he will play for? We shall see!

Brandon Lloyd Makes Pro Bowl, Drops F Bomb on Old Teams

Ha this is great stuff - Brandon Lloyd has something to say to the previous teams where he resided prior to landing here in Denver - the question was posed to him in the interview:

Lloyd was asked if he wanted to say “told you so” to the three teams for which he previously played — the 49ers, Redskins, and Bears.

”No, I want to say, ‘F–k you.’ And I mean that in the most professional way.”

Brandon told them exactly what he thought of them for not using him during their seasons where he (Lloyd) was on the roster, but forced to warm the bench. Obviously he has felt slighted all along by his previous teams, and is certainly happy he got traded to the Broncos.

Denver Broncos may have a losing season, but it is a winner for Brandon Lloyd. All I can say is that I hope he is able to perform well for a long time, or he will be reminded of his indiscretion by the media for years to come!

Denver Broncos Win Finally - Tim Tebow Comes Through

Certainly now the Bronco management is wishing they had started Tebow back in November as I suggested, but that is water under the bridge. Now they know Tebow is the guy, and will groom him as the Franchise QB which is why they acquired him. He is a powerhouse who gets the rest of the team excited to play and win, and that is one of his biggest qualities, besides that he is very athletic and can run when needed.

It is official now. Tebow will start for the last 2 games of the season. What fun, but they should have done this back in November in my opinion. Anyway, this is valuable experience for him and he needs to start as many games as possoble.

The Defense has been really aweful for most of the season. The offensive line has been mediocre at best. What a terrible season for the Broncos.

It is official - Denver has given up more points than any other team in the NFL this year. What a distinction that is huh?

Time to start Tim Tebow - After all, he IS the franchise QB, right?

When McDaniels drafted Tebow, the fans generally assumed he would become the franchise QB - what other conclusion could be drawn?

At this point, Orton is in the QB doghouse, and the team is not performing. What does it matter now if the team wins all the remaining games or not? Zip, Zilch and Nada. Get Tebow out there now!

No other logic should prevail at this point. I don't care if his first game is a total Bumble, he needs to get out there and call the plays.

If these boneheads don't let this young man on the field, they should be ashamed of themselves at this point.

Tebow should have started on the field back in November, and that is the consensus of many of my buddies and many sports writers as well. Come on Broncos, get Tebow on the field and let him get the experience now. This season is LOST - Tebow needs the practice NOW.

Broncos in rebuilding mode - Again

After all the events of the past 2 seasons, we all know the team is going to be in rebuilding mode again. The coming of Josh McDaniels was supposed to be the rebuilding and re-structuring era, and it was expected to be the new Winning era too. All that is history now, and it failed as an experiment in NFL logistics.

Now we have Eric Studesville as the interim coach, while Bowlen and his team of Bronco advisors head to the drawing board - again. Eric is a good guy, and he will fill in just fine, but surely they are looking for a brand new coach like maybe Urban Meyer, or someone else in that field of dreams out there.

As we move forward they have the option of doing what they should have done earlier, and that is to develop Tim Tebow as the new foundation of the team, and trade Kyle Orton to one of several teams who need an experienced QB, but who do not have a top franchise trainee like Tebow. It will happen folks.

I am concerned that Champ Bailey might seek another team to play on but that is speculation at this point. He is still a prime CB and can garner great money and starter status easily. He has to be discouraged at this point. Who wouldn't be anyway? This is a terrible situation.

If only Josh McDaniels would have learned to work with his difficult players, and focused on DEFENSE in the trades instead of the dumb things he did, then we could now be a playoff bound team. He never even played Tom Brandstater at all, then he unloaded him without seeing if he could start. Denver is not going to have a great team now for at least 2 years.

McDaniels is Toast, as I predicted last year - Guru Me?

Well I predicted this more than a year ago, in so many words. McDaniels has been a mistake from the beginning, but like other fans, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now the big question is will he be fired for cause, or will the Broncos have to pay him millions for nothing?

My personal opinion does not matter either way, but if I were McDaniels I would volunteer to take a lesser settlement and walk away without a fight. He has nothing to brag about aside from the first 6 games of the 2009 season. That is his only credit here.

Here are the latest stories floating around about it, and personally I am sorry this has all turned out this way. I would rather be talking about the Broncos heading for the playoffs, even if I do not like this guy. Too bad for the entire Bronco organization - but they will come back!

Monday Night Football Just A Few Hours Away

Denver must come out and play hard right from the beginning, and if possible, get the ball early and often, and score early and often. San Diego wants to reverse the momentum Denver has from last week, and they will try to do exactly the same thing. I hope we win the coin toss.

The Chargers typically do well in the 2nd half of the season, so they will be totally determined to shut Denver down quickly. Look for some scraps on the field as these teams rumble. Every game is like a playoff game for Denver now, and that is the only real disadvantage going in. Denver must win every game and that is all there is to it, I hope they can do it.

The first 8 games were hard, and they lost a lot of them, but it appears they have not lost heart or self confidence, so how exciting will it be if they go on a stretch of WINS? It will rock the Bronco Nation if they do it. Chargers are 3 and 1 at home, while Broncos are 1 and 3 away, so this makes it even more difficult for them, but the Chargers cannot win if Denver executes like they did last week.

Denver comes off a win last Sunday, but the Chargers have won 2 in a row, and have only one tick better record, so this game can go either way, and my bet is on the Broncos. Oddsmakers are giving it to the Chargers, but Denver beat the oddsmakers last week and can do it again in my opinion.

Why did the coach of the KC Chiefs refuse to shake McDaniel's hand last Sunday after the game?

He did make a statement about his behavior after the game, on camera, apologizing for how he acted, but he never did explain what made him so mad.

Was it the fact that the Broncos made it into the end zone too many times? Was it that challenge he issued and lost, due to the replay equipment malfunction?

Since he has never said why, it is speculation, but it sure was a bad moment for him. He looked like a BAD SPORT. Is that OK in the NFL?

McDaniels had an episode or 2 last season that created controversy, and that may be why he so readily forgave the guy for this snub, or it could have been his keen sense of "we won the game so it doesn't matter" that allowed him to shake it off.

Congratulations Broncos - Amazing Turn Around Game

I watched in amazement as the Denver Broncos pounded the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday. What an awesome game from start to finish! They started out hard and fast, made the first strike, kept the pressure up so KC did not return scores during the first 2 quarters, and they won it big time - W

Now we know how much talent and control they have, and of course we want them to continue playing like that. They played the game with a lot of enthusiasm and drive, and executed every play like a championship team. Now they have a much higher standard to live up to.

I was amazed to see them put Tebow in and how easily he made the TDs happen. One by just running it in (my suggestion the other day), and the other by passing. In fact, Sunday was Tebow's first NFL passing TD. What a HOOT

Their next game is Monday the 22nd, against the Chargers in Qualcomm Stadium. That will not be an easy game by any means. But, if the Broncos play that game like they played on Sunday, the Chargers will be in for a very rough game.

The Defense on Sunday was amazing. Not only did they hold the Chief's running backs to very small yardage, they also forced turnovers and took advantage of it by scoring themselves. Defensive Touchdowns are wonderful to watch, if they are YOUR Defense.

Final score was an amazing 49 to 29. Brandon Lloyd scored the first 2 TDs and it was all Broncos after that. What a Game Man!

Chiefs coming to Mile High Sunday spells Difficulty - Capital D

No matter what, the Broncos have to consider the reality of their most precarious situation with their 2 and 6 record. They have to win this game and every game left to have a chance to get into the playoffs. Anyway, that is what we used to talk about but nowadays we are simply talking about having a decent second half. Final analysis is that it will be hard to come out 8 and 8 by the end, very hard.

Sunday the Chiefs will bring Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones with them, and these guys are hot this year. They have combined for 1,289 rushing yards so far this year. In fact the Chiefs get more yards on the ground than they do in the air. They are averaging 179.6 yards rushing and 168.9 yards passing. Duh, this means Broncos Defense will get overworked again, so good thing for the Bye Week.

I have no idea how they will do, but die hard fans are hoping for a win against all odds. In fact, oddsmakers are unanimously taking the Chiefs by an average of +3. Man if the Broncos could somehow put it all together and win this one, some Bookies would lose a bunch of money.

I still believe with Orton's injuries (mostly minor), that they should start Tebow. TT can run the ball, pass the ball and fall on the ball like any good RB or WR can, and he wants to play. So, my opinion is to start him. What do they have to lose? He has the ability to fire up the whole team. Heck, he will have to write a whole nuther set of memoirs later. He could call it "Tebow Memoirs II" or something like that.

So you remember that last game with KC last season? Jamaal Charles rushed for 259 yards and left the game early, after the Chiefs were leading 44 to 24. That is mostly what the Broncos are going to have to defend against Sunday. Charles is a firestorm and he is not hurting from any serious injuries. When he needs a rest, they hand it to Thomas Jones and he does his thing pretty well. Our team must put together a fantastic first strike and a big big Defense.

D is for Denver, but Sunday D is for Defense. We Bronco fans believe in miracles.

What Do They Have to Lose? Start Tebow Sunday

Denver Broncos need to put a spark into the game plan, and there is no better asset on their roster than Tim Tebow at this point. I am not suggesting replacing Orton, just getting things going fast and furious. Tebow should start the game on Sunday to reverse the momentum.

Broncos have been outscored 40 to 7 this year in the first quater of all games cumulatively. There is a need for a first strike in Q1, and I believe if this is successful, the team will follow the lead. Maybe Tebow could just run some fake handoffs and run in a different direction each play until he is in scoring range. Then if he cannot get another player into the EZ, he can just do it himself.

So after the Bye week, the team is getting more players back from Injured Reserve. Ayers may be questionable, but many others are returning for work. The team will be ready for some excitement Sunday. I think they would mostly be in agreement that something new has to be tried. Would they agree with me? Not sure on that.

Broncos Make 2 Teams Equal by Losing Sunday

Well that is a funny can of worms isn't it? By losing on Sunday to the 49ers, the Denver Broncos made the 2 teams equal in the rankings, 2 and 6 each. What a magnanimous gesture on their parts. Talk about helping your neighbor out, man that gets the award. Now both teams are last in their division standings. Well, that is one way to share the wealth.

Now let's see here. If the Broncos want to beat last year's record, they must win the next 8 games. Then the very best they can have is 10 and 6. What do ya think of them odds bubba? I am not laying out any green stuff on that kinda bet. How about ending with 8 and 8? That would require the Broncos to win 75% of their remaining games. Maybe that one is possible, but I am thinking more like 50% to be realistic.

So here we are, another mediocre year and a very questionable future for the new head coach. I have been hearing John Elway might be attempting to buy into the team. He admitted his interest in a past interview. If number 7 takes over, what do ya think will happen to the present management? Heck, I have no way of really knowing, but my best guess is that they will be replaced.

Now the future of the franchise is on the line and most of the deciding factors are happening behind the scenes as we all suffer the present reality. I never imagined we would be seeing a 2 and 6 at mid-season, even with the current set of personnel and management. The future is where we are looking, and some are praying about the present. Do ya pray? Now is the time for it.

A Bad Day in Denver - Oakland Wins Big

When Pat Bowlen fired Shanahan and hired McDaniels I was one of the biggest critics. I also disagreed with firing Mike Nolan at the end of the 2009 season, and many of the other personnel changes McDaniels did. Recently however, I have tried to be positive and supportive of my team and it's chances to compete well in the league. After Sunday, I am absolutely depressed as a fan.

For some strange reason the Broncos had a bad bad day and could not protect the QB at all, and the usually strong defense failed miserably to stop Oakland's running or passing game. It was not just one bad play call like last week, but it was bad performance all game long. It was unbelievable to watch. I sat in horror as it unfolded. After the half I fully expected Denver to come out fighting and get even, but that never happened.

It was as though everyone had amnesia and forgot how to play. Watching thousands of fans leaving the stadium in the 3rd and 4th Quarters was downright scary. I don't quite know what went wrong, as it appeared to me, the fan, as though everything went wrong. In a game analysis, where do you begin? I listened to Dave Logan talk to the morning show folks this A/M about his time announcing the game, and it turns out this game may have been the worst he has seen in person, or he said maybe the worst of 1 or 2 others over the many years he was a player and a sports announcer.

Whatever caused this is what has to be worked on, so maybe they have to go back to the beginning and start over with everything. Protecting the QB is basic, essential and needs to be addressed. Defensive drills need to happen, and then the old "Red Zone" problem must be attacked. Anyway, I am 60 now and I cannot run down there and try out for the team! So we have to hope they can go forward and make a good finish with the remainder of the season.

We are still your fans Broncos, but we are distressed at this point. Hoping you guys can turn it around and win some games and play like last week only a little better!

Broncos Must Win against Raiders in Sunday's Game

Last Sunday the Broncos played a serious game, and actually outplayed the Jets in my opinion. However, for whatever reasons they did not get the W in the deal. This week they MUST win for a variety of reasons. Fans were amazingly forgiving last Sunday, but that will not be the case this week.

Raiders are our big rivalry. We usually beat them, especially in important games that matter.

Another loss puts the Broncos down too far. Now is the time to climb back out and start winning a few games. They have a tough schedule later on, so every win counts now. They MUST beat last year's record of 8 and 8, and I think they can do it.

Broncos lost on Sunday but saw Rookie Success Moves

Even though the Broncos lost the game with the Jets, no matter. The score was close and it was a good game overall. The defense stood fast and hard, holding LT to the lowest yardage so far this year.

It is worth mentioning that Rookies made big contributions to the game. Tim Tebow came in and took a snap, ran around the right and hit the end zone.

Demaryius Thomas came in and caught a 17 yard TD pass over the Jet's CB Darrelle Revis.

Zane Beadles went in for the injured Ryan Harris and did a darn good job against the Jet's defense.

There were others too on both sides, but the point is that the Broncos 2 and 4 record does not bother them at all right now. They are optimistic about fixing some errors and missed opportunities.

This is a team that "BELIEVES".

Shut up and enjoy the games - playoffs don't matter yet

Everywhere I go there are guys talking about the playoffs in the NFL. Why do we do this? We are currently 2 and 2, so aren't there 12 regular season games left? Shut up and watch the games, and we can talk about playoffs somewhere down the stretch.

Denver Broncos want to go to the playoffs just like everybody else does, but right now they need to play one game at a time. Sure Bowlen and McDaniels are shooting for championships, and it goes without saying that they want to beat the odds. However, this team must play a bunch of tough games ahead first.

Shut up about playoffs for now. Enjoy the Football Season - Sundays are Sacred!

One thing worth mentioning at this point is the amazing pass rating Orton has. Never mind what it is, just that he is executing very well, even in games they lose. So, be grateful for that let's just watch and analyze a few more games and then talk about the post season.

Defense is doing great too. Room for improvement sure, but doing great. Give credit where it is deserved, but stop trying to decide anything at this point. We are doing better than I imagined at this point. How about you?

Congratulations Denver Broncos - Defense and Air-Offense Win It

Pretty good game for Orton. Obviously the Broncos have NO running game to fall back on, but they did not allow that to stop them today - Orton is getting to be the big Air Mail Guy. I can only say that for a guy everyone is saying is mediocre, he is anything but.

The most stunning event today was the choice word Kyle Orton had for the Titan's after the game. I am not going to paraphrase his comments. Suffice to say that you should watch the channel 4 video I saw a few minutes ago where he makes these comments. Vic Lombardi mentioned that Orton gets the media attention for "most interesting soundbite" for the day. Listen to it. He let's them guys have it for their conduct on the field.

Orton tossed 50 times and completed 35 for 341 yards of offense. Not bad, but he has been doing that even in the games they have lost. Stop talking bad about this guy. He is proving something here isn't he?

Orton's worst statistical quarter had been the fourth, where he had an 81.9 passer rating compared to 107.0 in the first; 97.6 in the second and 115.5 in the third

Prater hit four times today but good grief, the running backs stats are dismal almost to be scary to report. 8 yards on 17 carries? Can that be right? Orton and his receivers did it all today, along with a very good performance by the DEFENSE.

One big toss down field to Gaffney drew the penalty for Pass Interference and Broncos got 1st and goal out of it - then he hit Buckhalter. Great way to capitalize on the penalty - you cannot waste those. At the end, the Broncos recovered a Prater kickoff and scored again with Matt's 4th FG. Amazing finish.

All the good stuff happened in the 4th - Cool, very cool. Man they could really do some damage if they could get a running game to go along with Orton's big ARM.
