Champ Bailey Set to Become Unrestricted Free Agent
Champ Bailey is a cornerstone of this team. He is well respected and admired by fans, and most of us hope he can stay with the Broncos. Unfortunately, last summer the talks on his contract were suspended and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
He wants to stay, and when he says that I believe he means it, but he is not going to take a step down in pay to have that happen. I do not know the figures, or if money is the problem, but I suspect that if he could have his current deal extended he would stay for another season.
Elway praised him, but kinda put off any solid commitment until after the new head coach is hired. That means it could be awhile until we learn of Champ's possible directions. Rumors are one thing, but it is the reality that counts, so whatever rumors are circulating, I don't care. I just want them to keep him. He is worth the deal he currently has.
In This Post Article, John Elway said, “I like Champ Bailey. He is a guy that I know if I was under center and I looked out there and saw 24 out there, I would want to go the other way like everybody has. So, he has been a great player for the Broncos,” Elway said. “Obviously that is something that we are going to have to sit down with Brian and the new head coach, find out where we are and make that decision.”
