What can happen next? Will Tebow take Clady's place on the line?

Ha Ha, can you imagine the scenario where McDaniels asks Tebow to take Ryan Clady's place on the offensive line?  I know he would do it for McDaniels if asked.  Of course, that will never happen (I hope anyway) but strange days are upon us here in Orange Crush country.  The Bronco traditions have been replaced with other things and how that all turns out is anyone's guess.

Denver Broncos All-Pro left tackle Ryan Clady (FSY) has undergone surgery to repair a torn left patellar tendon and will be out for several months, according to a published report.
The Denver Post reported on its website Wednesday that Clady suffered the knee injury while playing basketball, according to people it didn't name.

Well, other players who have had this injury have not usually been so lucky as to return in just a few months.  Most lose an entire year, and that means the Broncos will have to find some good player out there who can take his place for at least 3 months after the season starts, and maybe the entire season. What a PICKLE for the head coach, general manager and owner.

I saw Carl Mecklenburg on a TV commercial last year. Sure did bring back memories of the days of the great traditions. Now I know I am a grouchy old man!

Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos jersey is most popular in NFL since draft day

Good Grief Man, Read This .......

Bloomberg reported that Tebow's No. 15 Broncos jersey sold more than any rookie since the league started tracking sales at NFLShop.com. He surpassed the record established by Jets QB Mark Sanchez   (after his selection at No. 5 overall last year)

"It's a pretty substantial difference between him and the next guy," NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Bloomberg.

Broncos get Demaryius Thomas and Tim Tebow in Draft Day 1

What an amazing first draft day at the NFL. Amazing process and quite a strategy by McDaniels.  I guess for once I have to hand him a credit for this move of getting Tim Tebow out of Florida. Also, their selection of Demaryius Thomas from Georgia. In both cases McDaniels likes the character of these players. Apparently he has been studying the personnel files (and films) on these players. He wants happy, enthusiastic and hard working athletes who are not going to party down and get in trouble.

I do not believe Tony Scheffler fits this pegboard analysis, but Brandon Marshall might fit if you agree he is a big troublemaker. Anyway, no matter what you believe about the players who are gone, they are indeed gone and that cannot be changed.  Now it is a matter of fitting the new guys in with the existing system, while making things as smooth as possible along the way.  Broncos will want to make these new superstars welcome and feeling at home but they will be working very hard before they earn the right to play in regular season games.

The big emphasis from McDaniels has been on the overall deportment of Thomas and Tebow. In both cases he raved about their work ethics and dedication to the game.  Some feel Thomas was selected for 2 reasons; He is a great player who overachieves, and he is very tall like Brandon Marshall.  Both Thomas and Tebow are very excited to be drafted by the Broncos. I mean, I watched the interviews and they are really excited about it.  This is a positive aspect of all the drama leading up to the draft.

One TV sports guy (my favorite) said he believes McDaniels is hanging his future with the Denver Broncos on Tim Tebow as the dynamic and hard working QB who can take the team to greater levels of accomplishment. Sure seems reasonable to me. I know the way things have gone so far place McDaniels into a microscope of sorts, and even though Bowlen has always supported him, this year and next will tell the tale on that.

All of this makes you wonder what the heck they will ever do with Brady Quinn, Kyle Orton and Tom Brandstater.  I mean, who will play anyway?  I guess that will remain to be seen but there is obviously some very stiff competition coming up.  The way McDaniels runs things I know he is going to be rooting for Tebow to learn the new plays and strategies at Denver. I feel bad for Orton in this one, as he is toast in the near future.

Will the Broncos draft Tim Tebow from Florida?

This is interesting isn't it? The Broncos are having Tim Tebow work out at Dove Valley. I mentioned they might draft another QB didn't I? There will be some serious competition for that job in the coming months. Among the teams Tebow already has visited are the Redskins, Bills, Seahawks, Patriots and, most recently, the Browns, the NFL Reports.

Last week this is what Josh McDaniels said about Tebow:

“You look at the tape, and the only thing that you can say about the tape that isn't flattering or very impressive is that he dips the ball a hair. He has already fixed that. I think that's something that you can fix through repetition. He's already done it. He proved that at his pro day,” McDaniels said. “Everything else that you're watching on film is accurate: tough, smart, good leader, versatile, can move out of the pocket, can move in the pocket, can run with the ball. This guy scored ... What is he, the third-leading passer all-time and the leading scorer in rushing touchdowns over Herschel [Walker]? There are so many things that you can say about the kid. Then, to top that all off, he's every bit the person that you read about before you got the chance to meet him. He's very enthusiastic, wants to work hard, smart, bright, one of the smarter players I've ever been around in terms of coming out of college."

McDaniels likes him - I wonder where Tom Brandstater will end up?  Brady Quinn, Kyle Orton and Brandstater make a threesome - somebody has to go man.

Scheffler headed to Detroit to be a Lion - Roar Man Roar

credit to the Denver Post on this photo

Remember when Scheffler and Cutler used to be touted as a big combo in Denver's offensive plan?  Seems like an eternity ago, but now they are gone. McDaniels didn't like them, and so is Marshall and others, all gone. Now it is evident that some other teams are going to benefit from having this talent.

Scheffler has been traded to the Detroit Lions and is going to be participating in restoring the "ROAR" for them. Here is a quote from the Denver Post.

"Restore the Roar!" Scheffler said this morning as he answered the phone, referring to the Lions' slogan.  Denver Post reports that Tony Scheffler and a seventh-round draft pick have been traded to the Detroit Lions in a three-team trade that sends the Philadelphia Eagles' fifth-round draft choice to Denver and Detroit outside linebacker Ernie Sims, a former top 10 draft pick, to the Philadelphia Eagles.

All fine and good, and it must be said that the Broncos have been very cooperative about getting rid of all these guys who were disgruntled over the McDaniels methods of coaching the team. Petty punishments and nonsensical personnel changes are never the concern of players, but for those who made it their concern, new jobs await on other NFL teams.
Tony is excited to play with Matthew Stafford, the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2009 draft. I personally believe they will be a good combination for the Lions, and that team will have a good season in 2010, made better by having a high quality guy like Scheffler working for them.

Talk about not using your weapons man.  In 2009 Scheffler lead all tight ends with a 13.7 yard average carry and just had to sit around too much.  He complained about it and didn't even get to play in the last game of the season, as was the case with Brandon Marshall.

Advice to the Broncos who ARE left on the team this year.  Don't talk bad about McDaniels, or you will be sitting on the bench no matter how much you can contribute to the success of the team!

Now we may get some surprises when the draft starts in a few days, but heck do we really think we can second guess the coach in this?  No way because he never does the normal kind of stuff.  No matter who I guessed they would draft, I would never bet a dollar on my picks. It is that crazy here now.

Scheffler gets 1.176 Million guaranteed by the tender he signed, and I promise ya he will play more. We all wish him the best. He was a very popular Bronco.

Denver Broncos Shed Talent, McDaniels Gambles Big

Well here we are in the aftermath of several big trades spanning a year, including the best hope for a franchise QB since Elway, and arguably the best receiver in the league, both sent packing.

Cutler did not have a great year at Chicago, but will get another chance this year to blossom into the dynamic star expected. Marshall did have a good year last season, but had terrible differences with the new coach, so he is also gone.

Now I did not agree with trading Cutler, but Marshall is different.  I agree with his trade because it made him rich, and it gets him out of the circle of hate and dead end guidance he was in.  Now he can flourish and improve on his performance where everyone including the coach and ownership will be cheering and rooting him on.

This is just a guess, but I am going to venture that Marshall will not cause any trouble there in Miami, especially since he is getting the biggest contract of any receiver ever in the NFL.  He not only has something to prove to the new owners, but to McDaniels as well.

Believe me when I say, McDaniels will be watching Marshall's game progress at Miami and if he excels, it will be a just outcome after all the negativity he has been wrapped in here in Denver. Now for my most controversial statement.

I believe that after this coming season, Pat Bowlen will begin to realize this all has been a mistake, and that he never should have fired Shanahan, traded Cutler and others, and finally Brandon Marshall.  As usual I must toss in my usual disclaimer:  "I could be wrong"

Now on to the 2010 Draft and the eventuality of the season beginning with exhibition games during August. Finally after one whole year, we will get to see Tom Brandstater play again.  Watch carefully as he is really wanting a chance to win the job of starter. Man the odds are against him, but I predict he will show them something - sure hope I am right.

All these moves are a big gamble for McDaniels who must prove his metal and his judgement in the coming season, or face the recriminations of the fans, and possibly the owner too.  We have to wait now to see how it all turns out.  Last year was a drag, so even though I am predicting another average year, I actually hope I am wrong.

If I am wrong, I will admit it right here.

Brandon Marshall is off to Miami for the Sweet Life

Ah the tropics, or semi-tropics anyway. What a place to go and be rich!  So I could not have scripted a better outcome.  Adam Schefter is reporting the story today that Brandon has been traded for a 2nd round draft  pick in 2010, and another 2nd round pick in 2011.

He has to get down there and take a physical, but I really doubt that will be any problem. After that Schefter is saying he will be receiving one of the biggest contract deals in the history of the NFL.

http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/files/2010/01/BrandonMarshall.jpg
Denver Post Photo

"The trade to Miami was surprising because Dolphins coach had said he didn’t think Marshall would be a good fit for his team. However, has final say on Dolphins personnel and Parcells has never been afraid of working with controversial-but-talented receivers".

Well finally the saga ends, and Marshall gets to find glory in another big town. Miami is a big football city, and somehow it all just fits in my mind quite well. I can just see Brandon parading around Miami with adorning fans falling all over him. After this deal is signed, he will be rich, young and happy.  Watch for him to really perform for the Dolphins. This season will be the best he has had yet!

Fifteen wide receivers have caught passes for the Dolphins over the last three seasons. In that time span, Brandon Marshall has more touchdowns and 100-yard games than all of them combined. Parcells is counting on more of the same, and I believe he is going to get it.

Marshall Signs his Tender, open up the possibility of a Trade

Before he signed his tender, another team could have made an offer, and the Broncos would have been forced to either match the offer, or let him fly for the first round pick.  Now, after signing his tender, he is no longer a restricted free agent, and is totally owned by the Broncos and can be openly traded to the right team, as long as they guarantee the 2.5 million dollar first years salary and whatever the Broncos can negotiate from the other team. There obviously is a chance the team might not get all they had hoped for before the signing, but for Xanders and McDaniels, trading Marshall is of the highest priority. You can bet they will get the best deal possible for him.

Now with this move out of the way, it is pretty obvious Marshall will really be traded for someone, or for a combination of someones. Good deal?  Probably, but here is the bottom line. Brandon Marshall will play his heart out after a trade to prove to the Broncos that it is the TEAM, not HIM that was causing the difficulties last year.  He still ended up as the #5 best wide receiver in the NFL last year with all the negative waves all around him.  Now he will certainly be traded and will be #3 or #2 in the coming season.  Watch and see!

Brandon Marshall Settling in with family here in Denver - a signal of sorts?

Wow I am confused by the marriage of Brandon Marshall and his fiance' a few days ago. It sure seemed to me he was totally motivated to get right outa here and it seems funny he would wrap up the marriage vows right here in the metro area.

To make it really strange is that he and his lady, Michi Nogami-Campbell were hitched on April 1st, and as I understand it, the ceremony was attended by only a few and was performed by a Jeffco Judge. What is up with this type of thing?  Is Brandon using his sometimes "strange sense of humor" to send a message to the team that he is settling in?

Certainly there have not been a lot of teams rushing in to secure his services in exchange for a first round draft pick, although I considered it a possibility at least.  Anyway, we Denver fans do congratulate him and the new Mrs on their humble start, and we wish them all the best.

According to the Denver Post, this was authenticated and verified, so it must be for real.

Broncos are stuck with McDaniels No Matter What

Yes the owner of the Denver Broncos has recently said more supportive things about his young progeny Josh McDaniels which indicate he will be here for a long time to come. Bowlen believes he is the man of the future for the team, and he holds back no trepidation about it.

"We have a year under our belt here and he's really grown a lot,'' Bowlen told the Boston Globe. "He had all the right tools. Obviously, being in New England, he was well-schooled. I'm there every day, so I see him. I think he's going to be a great coach. When you come in and you're thrust from assistant coach to head coach, that's a big adjustment, especially for someone his age. The real question mark in a lot of people's minds, even in the organization, was, 'Can this young guy handle the job?' I think he showed us he can do that.''

Bowlen said he's committed long-term to McDaniels. "I'm not going to hire him and two or three years out let him go,'' Bowlen said. "If he wasn't a high-caliber guy and a great coach, or didn't have the opportunity to be a great coach, that'd be different. He has, in my mind, a great future with the Broncos and is going to be here for a long time.'' (from Yahoo! Sports)

Well this is great news isn't it?  Now if Mr. Bowlen keeps his good health and can stay on top of everything for a few more years he will probably realize this was all a mistake, but one can only speculate on that.  As a fan we can drift from one position to another without getting fired or recriminated in the big media press. I am not as confident as he is but as I always say, "I could be wrong." Really for the sake of the team and the brand I love, I hope I am wrong. A person can mature as time goes by, and my hope for this guy is that he will do so.  Learning hard things is a part of every successful position, especiall in pro sports.

Does anyone have any idea of who they are going to pick in the draft?  We need a center for sure, and how about an offensive guard?  Since they already have Quinn, Orton and Brandstater, why not draft another QB?  Seems like McDaniel's kind of move, and then what about the defense?  Until April 22nd it is anybody's guess.

2010 Denver Broncos Cheerleader Auditions begin Sunday April 25, 2010

2010 Denver Broncos Cheerleader Auditions begin Sun., April 25, 2010!

Teresa Shear Says (letter link here)

Yes, it is that time of year again! Auditions are right around the corner and I wanted to fill everyone in on a few changes we have for 2010 as well as dates, times, workshops and everything you will need to know to prepare you to have the best audition possible.
The biggest change for 2010 is that our audition will select 26 members to the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and select 10 women to the Denver Outlaws Dance Team. The Outlaws Dance Team is open to women ages 18 and up, and we are excited to see all the young talent that is out there coming to our audition. Both teams will be selected from the finalists from the audition process. The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders will only select women 21 and up by the deadlines listed on the audition forms.
The process will be very similar to last season’s audition. Our preliminary round will consist of a short combination (4 eight counts) of basic dance technique. A turn, a leap, right and left kicks and simple choreography will be taught on the spot and participants will perform that combination for the judges in groups of three. After all participants have performed, 100 participants will be selected to move on that day to the Semi-Finals.
During the Semi-Final round, the participants will be taught a routine very similar to routines performed on game day by the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. Again, the choreography will be taught on the spot and the semi-finalists will perform in groups of 3 for our panel of judges. The field will be narrowed down to 60-70 women who will be our finalists for both the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders and the Denver Outlaws.
Finalists will be evaluated over the next two weeks in a series of workshops on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Finalists will be interviewed, tested on football knowledge, judged on work ethic during rehearsals and observed on interaction with the other finalists during the process.
Don’t miss our Audition Workshop on Saturday, April 10. This workshop will give you inside information from former Denver Broncos Cheerleaders, and the women that run the DBC program.
We are excited to once again open up our Final night of Auditions to the public. Last year we hosted a sold out crowd of 500 and this year we expect the turn out to be even larger so buy your tickets early. The evening is full of entertainment, from the opening group number, to the beautiful kickline sequence, solos by the finalists, performances in groups of 3 on more technical choreography, and a final performance by the new 2010 Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. It is a fun night for all ages!
Please click on the links below for dates, times and more information on 2010 Denver Broncos Cheerleader and Denver Outlaws Auditions!

How about Marshall going to the Redskins?

What a great idea for Marshall. Rumors are again being circulated that the Redskins might toss a hoop around Brandon's neck after getting Donovan McNabb at QB. With Shanahan as head coach with all authority and Snyder off to the side, this could actually happen. I would be happy for him as I believe he needs to get out of this city. Bad memories abound here, and the new coach does not like him, and always wants to make him look like the bad guy (heck, sometimes he is the bad guy), but overall he just will do so much better in another town.

Redskins had a bad win/loss record last year (4 and 12) but they do have a good defense in spite of that. Now they have the makings of a really hot offense with McNabb, Portis, Johnson and Parker. All they really need at this point for a good playoff contention team is a wide receiver like Marshall. Can you imagine the excitement in DC if Snyder bites on this one?  I sure hope they do. Good for them if they do in my opinion. Marshall will be on his best behavior around Shanahan and will have some things to prove.  For Washington, it is a good gamble.

Overall it has been very quiet on the western front, and the eastern front as well when it comes to Marshall. I just don't want to see him stifled here in Denver, even though I am a big fan of our team. Both parties, Broncos and Marshall, will be better off with him playing somewhere else. We do not even meet the "skins" this upcoming season anyway during the regular season.

I saw Orton on TV today talking about competing for his job with Brady Quinn. Funny, he said "yeah, Quinn .......blah, blah ....... and Brandstater wants my job too."  Yes sir Kyle, he sure does and I am a big fan of him doing exactly that. Taking your job!  Brandstater would be a dynamic and energetic addition to the starting lineup at QB.  I pray for it.  The only way I want Marshall to stay here is if Brandstater is at the helm.  He can see over all the players just like Big Ben, and I just about guarantee he would find the target more often than Orton.

Well, off to dreamland for me - go Brandstater!

Broncos get Brady Quinn, Redskins get McNabb - HUH?

Well here we go again with our crazy trade stuff.  Donovan McNabb apparently has been traded to Washington Redskins, while the Broncos have Brady Quinn.  Is this brilliant or what?  I wonder why they didn't try to get McNabb?  Another mysterious McSmarty strategy I imagine huh?

I sure am sorry the Redskins can't come to Denver this year. Not on the schedule. If they did then Shanahan could march in with McNabb and have a day of victory in the old home stadium.  Fans would probably give him a standing ovation, while McLoser would simply cuss and curse and throw his gatorade at someone or something,

Meantime no one is interested in Brandon Marshall. Well, at least they have not offered anything for him, and the Broncos wanted to unload him so I am sure they are pounding their desks and stuff. I'll bet they have been disappointed at the results so far.  Well, here comes Brandon for training camp in just a few short months.

What else is new?  Not much man, not much!  At least when the exhibition games begin then we will get to see Brandstater play again. Sure is a mystery how they can have great talent sitting on the bench, and they won't use it (head scratch).

I asked this guy about it and he kinda wondered what the heck was going on as well:

Why in heck would he do that?
What the heck are they doin over there?
They gonna play the talent or what?

Some of us are out of touch with the new normal and I readily admit that.  My grandkids would verify that I just don't have a clue. Oh well, what the heck? Wait for more funny news to break later!

Jason Elam is a Quality Guy

No one has been a more positive individual player force on the Broncos for the last many years than Jason Elam.  Today he retired from the NFL and got to be a Bronco for one day just before the retirement began, and he talked during the ceremony. He choked up a bit because he is a real man of the gridiron. Kickers usually do not get that much recognition or accolades.  He deserves it totally. What a great contributor he was to the Denver Broncos.

(Reuters)   (Jason Elam was the greatest kicker in the NFL)

Veteran kicker Jason Elam signed a one day contract with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday and then announced his retirement from the NFL as a member of the team where he began his 17-year career.

Today he was inducted into the Ring of Fame by the Broncos.

I salute Jason Elam - I wish him the best - He gave us many great memories in years past. Good job buddy!
