Brandon Marshall will go somewhere - Where?

There are some speculations about where Brandon Marshall is going, but no one really knows yet and that probably includes Brandon as well. He is almost certainly leaving the Broncos due to his rocky, sometimes funny and always entertaining relationship with Josh McDaniels.

One of my favorite sources of information is the Bleacher Report. There are some articles there right now about this that have Brandon possibly going to Tampa Bay or Baltimore. Really both of these are quite possible, especially Baltimore. I am just going to guess that there will be other teams that will want him if those don't work out.

NFL Trade Rumor: Is Brandon Marshall Headed For Baltimore?

Disgruntled Denver Broncos' receiver, Brandon Marshall, is on his way out of Denver . It won't be officially known until after March, as players cannot be traded or become free agents until then. However, all signs point to an exit from Denver, and the fact that the Baltimore Ravens have made it known that they need/want an upgrade at their No. 1 receiver spot, suggests Marshall is a top candidate.

Does Brandon Marshall to the Buccaneers Make Sense for Both Parties?

Although he is a tremendous talent, every NFL team knows Marshall wants out of Denver (and vice-versa), so any team interested in him will not have to give up something significant, like a first-round pick. However, we all know that to be false. I am not suggesting Denver requires Tampa to surrender the third pick in the draft, as that would be unwise on Denver's part, but the Buccaneers have 10 total picks in the upcoming draft, two of which come in the second round.

After you have a look at those stories just consider some trends we have seen already. Coaches and staff running out the door, with job offers waiting all over the league. Broncos having to hire within to get a defensive coach (Martindale) and the disgruntled attitudes that were all too evident at the end of the season. Can you imagine the difficulty McDaniels is going to have getting top quality players when the draft opens up? No one will want to go there. Everyone is running away from the Broncos.

Maybe now is our opportunity to join the team? Har Har, just kidding!

I am guessing the trade rumors will continue to trickle in for the next 6 weeks and then the real meat will go on the shelf. Do you imagine Tony Sheffler will be wanting to leave? I think so and for exactly the same reason Brandon Marshall want to leave. Do we have any wild guesses on this one? I can't wait for the cool news as it comes out. Wish things were different, but we all have to make the best of this mess.

No Pees for Denver - Shucks

Well there it is again. Another disappointment for the Josh McDaniels pundits. Dean Pees will not be the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator. The Baltimore Ravens announced Tuesday it was hiring Pees as their new linebackers coach.

Dang, no Pees! Now what? So speculation is moving to the possibility of currnt linebacker coach Don Martindale to replace Nolan as defensive coordinator. Heck that is great, why not hire from within? That's the spirit!

John Harbaugh, Baltimore Raven's head coach has known Dean Pees for 27 years and scooped him up quick, before Josh could send out the word in that issue.

Why couldn't he have given Pees a chance?

Mike Nolan also got recruited quickly by the Miami Dolphins in Less Than 24 Hours after he was quietly let go from the Broncos

Other highlights include
Dennison, Turner officially are gone as Broncos assistants

So the future of our Denver Broncos is really uncertain at this point. Do ya think Bowlen might just give up and sell the whole thing to Wyoming? Can you say "the Casper Broncos"?

Naw, not a chance I guess. But the coaching staff will have to find a good bunch of "Yes Men" and that takes awhile doesn't it?

After all this mystery gets cleared up, then we can start the rumors and speculation about the coming free agent trades and who is coming to camp, and who is not. Can't wait for all that!

What is not being said about all this Bronco stuff lately?

Here is a good essay at the Bleacher Report that is so well stated that I feel you should just read it and see if you agree or not. ==> Bloodletting Article

We all know the team finished 8 and 8, and when Shanahan was tossed out, most of us felt that a record of 8 and 8 at the end of the season would actually be a good thing. What happened to the optimism?

Face it - it is all about what is NOT BEING SAID

Brandon Marshall cleans out his locker at the end of the season, and even takes his name tag thing off the locker. He leaves behind no trace that he was ever there, and then goes out and makes a nice squeaky clean praise comment about the Broncos - Remember? I'm a 100% commitment .... etc"

What was he leaving out? What did he NOT say?

Mike Nolan quietly leaves the offices and does not negotiate a new contract, and he says nice things about the Broncos, then immediately gets a new job. I wonder if what was not said in that case was something like "I will get to use the formations I want to use finally ..." Hey about Mike Nolan:

How long did it take for him to get another job? Was it one day?

Josh McDaniels, when asked about Nolan's departure says something nice and respectful about Mike, and that is all he said. What did he leave out?

Think about this for a minute. Mike Nolan coached a defense that went from 29th in the league in the previous season to 7th in this recent season. Is that bad? Was the fact that Elvis Dumervil lead the league in sacks after being reassigned by Nolan a mere coincidence?

Nolan coached the DEFENSE, not the OFFENSE. Let's see now, who was it that was coaching the OFFENSE? Oh yeah, that was Josh McDaniels wasn't it?

Defense went UP, offense went DOWN. So why did Mike Nolan have to leave? Might have something to do with what was not said...

Offense went from being ranked at 2nd in the league in Shanahan's final season, to being ranked at 15th in Josh's first year. This is not up for debate, it just is the facts.

Now only some sports writers are saying some of the things that should be said, such as Woody Paige "Did the wrong coach leave the building at Dove Valley on Monday"?

Maybe there is something in the water over there .......

What is the real story behind Mike Nolan leaving?

“I can’t say anything other than Josh and I mutually agreed to part ways,” Nolan said.

"I have great respect for Mike and wish him success in the future," McDaniels said in a team statement.

So is this a cover up or what? Did McDaniels fire Mike Nolan? What is really going on here? Or, as they have said, it may just be a parting of the ways. Did Nolan disagree with the headmaster too much?

Now we know he is going to the Dolphins as their defensive coordinator. According to the Denver Post Article Here

Mike Nolan knew he was a hot commodity and IN DEMAND around the league. He was right and this move is the Bronco's loss, even if Josh hires Pees.

NBC Sports Story and Comments

So rumors in the stories say his replacement will be Dean Pees. Pees tells the press he just left after his contract expired and that he wanted to pursue other things.

Will he be coming to Denver? Hey, you can speculate about all this but I knew after the dismal finish the Broncos would see some folks leaving. Timing is everything, and Mike Shanahan's new job was the perfect way to vacuum up some of the guys he used to work with. But now Nolan, and then Pees?

You just have to read some of the comments on the NBC site after that article was published. These are a riot, and serve as a reminder of how us fans can get disgruntled when things like this happen:

22 comments to the NBC Sports story Here

My favorite is this one - "
McDouche is only going to last one more year. Bowlen has too much class to fire him after one year like Al Davis would but he's not going to get that team turned around next year and that won't cut it in Denver. He'll go 6-10, 8-8 tops. That schedule has a few gimmes but even Denver has proven they don't win the gimme games. When you get beat by the Gayders at home, that's disgraceful. Essentially the Broncos went 6-0 and then proceeded to lose to two college teams (Chefs and Gayders) and 6 others. WTF. I am a die hard Bronco fan but this is is disgusting. This guy has ruined a promising team in just one year. It's amazing how bad he is. It's bad enough to be a Charger fan since they always choke but at least they get to the post season. Broncos fans are in misery right now. Being average is awful." (written by user gweetarman)

So the saga continues and continues. Josh McDaniels was riding a wild wave until week 7, then the world went cold, and the guys on the team just wouldn't behave, and then he went in his office and hid out for awhile and waited for everyone to run out the door. What an aweful year this has turned out to be.

Is Josh McDaniels a Good NFL Coach?

Hey, there is not too much to talk about these days since our Broncos went south on us, but some things are still needing to be discussed. Is Josh McDaniels a good NFL coach? That is the subject I want to throw out here.

Many say Josh is a control freak type of coach - Is this really a bad thing, and is it really true?

From USSportspages
"And why the titillation with guys who have worked for the Patriots dictator? He’s a complete control freak to the point where you have to wonder how much of their job any Belichick assistant is allowed to do (I can picture the Pat’s coach manning the cheat-cam himself). It’s not like Belichick’s disciples have had much success when leaving New England"

From the Golf Channel (yeah, I know)
"Another Bill Belichick Clone Control Freak Strikes Again.
Josh McDaniel has got to be the most STUPID Coach in the NFL...

Let me get this straight.
1) On Wednesday most of us NFL Fans Saw the Tape of The Best Player on the Denver Broncos Football Team Brandon Marshall Pull his hamstring in practice on Wednesday.
2) What does Belichick Wannabe Moronic Control Freak Josh McDaniel Do to him for Pulling his Hamstring? Inactivates him for a Do or Die Last Game of the Season for your team to get into the Playoffs?"

From Denver Post - Defending McDaniels (discussed today on Mike Rosen radio)
"Letter-writer Timothy Cunningham states that Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels is a control freak and that we should bring back “Shanny” [Mike Shanahan]. I, however, applaud McDaniels for doing the right thing. Much of the problem in sports these days is due to coaches who will not stand up to these overpaid, spoiled, selfish, so-called professional athletes. We need more coaches like McDaniels, and more fans who will stop accepting childish behavior in the name of winning."

From the Denver Post (yeah, I know) Should Bowlen Fire McDaniels?
"Firing McD after only one year may not be the way Bowlin works, but in this case it should be. Does he allow his employees in his other business ventures to perform at minimal levels of success, cost him millions in poorly invested and managed dollars, show absolutely no promise of improved performance, and run off clients/customers with their anti-social behavior? I seriously doubt that Bowlin got to the economic level he enjoys by running his businesses with the same laissez faire attitude he is extending to McD."

So of course these are not the only opinions out there, but I can tell you that opinions are directly influenced by the Win/Loss record of a team. During the 6th and 7th week of the season, you could not find many of these kinds of posts, but they have been appearing more and more since week 8 and beyond. Many fans think he (McDaniels) is over controlling and too media conscious - controlling what the players say and how they say it, etc.

I think he is a pretty good coach, but needs to learn how to change it up from time to time in order to beat the film watching teams they play. Always up the middle, always using Orton with no consideration of allowing Tom Brandstater to play, and not allowing some running backs to use their skill because for some mysterious reason he is mad at them. If he could just loosen up a bit and be more "REAL" with the players, I think he would be getting more out of them for performance.

Just too many petty things seemed to come up about him for it all to be untrue, but still we have to give him credit for a fairly good season at the age of 32. We all need to remember that he is just a kid in the world of NFL Coaches. Overall he did ok, and the end record was just about what I predicted it would be (no credit for me as I changed my mind a few times).

Next season I am hoping he will develop some different running plays like the Reverse, Double Reverse, Pitch Out, Pitch Back and quite a few others that would have worked against the teams we played from game 9 to the end. Where are those other plays?

We know Josh is a regular guy after that ESPN recording that was aired of him yelling at the team on the sidelines using familiar expletive terms. So, we all need to lobby to get him to loosen up and maybe let the players say what they want to say to the media, and to the other players too. Add some new plays to the play book, and try to relax a bit and try to enjoy some of the experience ya know?

Denver Broncos Heading to London to play the 49ers

London

The NFL has announced that the Broncos will traval to London on Sunday, Oct. 31, to face the San Francisco 49ers as a part of the NFL's International Series.

"The Denver Broncos are honored to play in London against the 49ers as part of the NFL's International Series," Broncos President and CEO Pat Bowlen said. "Our organization has been fortunate to play in several American Bowls in previous years, including one in London, but to play a regular-season game overseas is truly special.

"It's a wonderful, historic opportunity for our franchise and will be an unforgettable experience for our players, coaches and fans. I'm excited for the game in London and am thrilled that the Broncos will be part of the NFL's continued international growth."

The game will be played at Wembley Stadium at 11 a.m. MST (5 p.m. UK). CBS will provide live television coverage of the game in the United States.

Everyone is leaving the Broncos - Wow, who will run the team?

Dennison leaving Broncos for coaching job with Houston
Denver Post -

Longtime Broncos assistant coach Rick Dennison on Tuesday afternoon accepted an offer to become the offensive coordinator on Gary Kubiak's staff in Houston.

Dennison leaves Denver after being an assistant coach here for 15 years, including the last nine seasons as the offensive line coach.

Turner will interview with Redskins after all

Last week the Denver Broncos denied running backs coach Bobby Turner and interview with the Skins as requested, but now they have changed their tune. This story was broken by Adam Schefter.

The Denver Broncos granted the Houston Texans permission to interview offensive line coach Rick Dennison for their vacant offensive coordinator position. [story here]

Did Ya See Tom Brady Get Beat Today?

HA HA HA HA HA yeah Tom Brady got beat today. Thank you Lord, thank you! There is a God, and he has spoken today!

From the New York Times Sports Today:

Comment on Tom Brady’s three interceptions.

Look, we made too many mistakes in the game to win, and that’s obvious.”The most significant line of questioning was not about the game but the direction of the franchise. Belichick wasn’t in the mood to discuss this, either: “Look, we just got off the field. The game was over 10 minutes ago.” But this question is hovering: Was this a disappointing season-ending loss or the end of a run?

Brady said he didn’t see Sunday’s loss as a referendum on the Patriots or a signal that the world was falling in on the organization. He minimized any larger implications.

We didn’t play well, so, you don’t play well against a good team, I don’t think it’s anything more than that,” he said. “To put it in terms of our franchise or anything like that, it’s one game where we didn’t play particularly well.”

Waiting for the restricted free agent trade rumors to begin

You know of course that Brandon Marshall is a free agent don't you? Yes indeed, and guess what? He is going to be traded away in a couple of months or more. I predict he will be very happy to be traded away, and who knows - Mike Shanahan might pick him up - or maybe not of course.

McDaniels has been negative about him on enough occasions that in my opinion, he will not be able to get the deal of the century either. Even when Brandon had been good for a long time Josh still indicated that he had some issues with him. The final value on a trade is diminished by all that stuff. Wonder what kind of leeway Bowlen will give him this year?

Other teams will want to pick him up because they know he is very talented, and they will believe they can groom him better than McDaniels did. Watch and see, they will pick him up and some day he will return to Mile High to take a bow (after the TD).

The upside of trades is that the Broncos will be getting new personnel too, and who knows what combination of good players will work for them? I am looking forward to all of it because it always makes good material for my commentaries.

I would also look for Tony Sheffler to be traded away as well. Did you realize that the Broncos and the Redskins have done probably more trades than any other 2 teams in the league? The owner of the Skins is a big spender, and he will give Shanahan lots of leeway in making offers difficult to match by other teams.

According to the Denver Post - Broncos offensive line coach Rick Dennison is being considered for the Houston Texans' offensive coordinator job. But Shanahan is poised to offer Dennison a job as well, two league sources said Tuesday night. Mike will also be interested in some of the other Bronco's coaching staff who worked closely with him for years. Not that he will want them all, but I do predict he will make offers to some of them.

Shanahan Hired by the Redskins - Look Out Bowlen

Hey this is really the big story today isn't it? Mike Shanahan isn't content sitting around making 7 million smacks and traveling the world. No sir he ain't and now he will get 14 million denargos for coaching the Washington Redskins (they are matching his salary from the last year in Denver). What a coup this is for him. He has plans for revenge (heh heh)

Imagine next season he draws half the coaching staff from Denver, and makes a deal to get a good franchise QB that he can groom like he did Elway. I wonder who he might target?

This guy had a few mediocre years before he was fired, but do you realize that during the 14 years with Denver, he had a 138-86 record?

I believe the Broncos may not be playing the Redskins next season, so this scenario will have to wait until the next one, but what if .....

Shanahan somehow gets Tom Brandstater from the Broncos, then starts his west coast program with the guy, and then his first year posts a 10 and 6, or 9 and 7. Then in the 2nd year he gets TB rolling hot and comes to Denver and Beats the tar out of McDaniels and Orton (or whoever) and the 3,000 fans left in the stadium at the end of the game give him a standing ovation!

Ah so much for fantasy eh? Fun to imagine the possibilities. Anyway, Shanahan is a good coach and he will come back. Do ya think he might go after Cutler? Nah, too expensive probably. However, Mike knows Cutler does have a good year coming and the Jay man might WANT to be with him on the "Skins" anyway.

All things are possible in the NFL man! Go Broncos!

Let's Talk about Brandon Marshall and other Bronco Stuff OK?

Brandon Marshall - This young man is totally different than he was just a year ago. His attitude is better, his demeanor is more mature, he speaks now to the press as required and he apparently wants to continue on as a Denver Bronco (oh yeah).

USA Today Reports Broncos WR Brandon Marshall lavished compliments on the Broncos and coach Josh McDaniels on Monday, one day after the coach refused to play him in the team's season-ending loss to the Chiefs.

Now I am confused about something here. Last week when Marshall pulled his hamstring, coach McDaniels was talking at the press conference as though Brandon was choosing not to play, and the he (McDaniels) really wanted him to. Now this story is reporting that McDaniels would not let him play. I wonder which version is correct? Did I just hear it all wrong?

In the USA Today article Brandon stated, "I'm nothing but 100% commitment to the Denver Broncos, to my teammates. I have nothing but great things to say about coach McDaniels, this organization. ... Mr. B (team owner Pat Bowlen) is probably one of the best owners in all of sports. Coach McDaniels ... if it wasn't for him, the growth in me this year wouldn't be there."

You can see from the quote that he is listening to his agent, or to a good teammate who is giving him advice on how to talk to the media. This is an evidence of his maturity that he is learning how to control the mouth thing.

Personally I do hope Brandon stays here, but I am not entirely certain about this 100% thing, are you? I would not be surprised at all to hear of trade talks later in the year, say around March or April. Am I wrong? Time will tell.

In this Gazette Story
says "Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler shared a going-away hug in the locker room that was symbolic and telling. More telling might have been Marshall’s locker, which he completely cleaned out – including the nameplate and the stickers that signified his No. 15, leaving only a small sticker players wore on their helmets earlier this season for breast cancer awareness.

After what transpired the past week, both seem destined to play somewhere else next year. Marshall was called out for the severity of his hamstring injury Friday by Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and was inactive Sunday, and Scheffler was a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game. Both are free agents this offseason."

Tony Sheffler is one I would hate to see leave the team too. He is an excellent play maker and the Broncos need him. I like Kyle Orton as a Bronco of course, but I am not certain he is the guy to be at the helm on this team. What other things might happen? Not sure, but since he did a real good job in the first half, and just had a few problems in the 2nd half he will probably be the guy, but what about other talent like Tom Brandstater?

I tell ya, they never got the milage out of Brandstater that could have been realized. I think if they had started him and groomed him to be the franchise QB, the 2nd half would have looked different, but they might not have won the first 6 while he was learning. With talent like that sitting around the bench I wonder what they are thinking for next season?

So here we are again, Brandon and Josh are best friends again, it's all happy ho ho over at the Broncos again, and there is no controversy at all. Right? Next season everything will be the same and we will again RUN UP THE MIDDLE. Kyle will say and do all the right things, and they will end up 9 and 7 or so, and maybe get in the first round of the playoffs.

In just a few months, we will see what is really happening. Little bits slip out here and there, but I understand everyone is staying quiet now to protect the team overall, and their own bonuses, etc. Both Marshall and Sheffler will be free agents soon.

Making Those Miracles "Unhappen" Gradually,

What can we say at this point about the Denver Broncos? How do we, the fans, analyze and understand how this season turned out?

First of all, the game on Sunday didn't matter after all because the other teams that needed to lose if we won, did not lose. So, even if the Broncos had won it, they still would not have been in line for the Wild Card.

Still, all of us expected to win, didn't we? Yeah, we did. I have an opinion about this as I sit from afar looking in, and of course I could be wrong about this.

I think somehow the team has become demoralized. If I am correct, it started about week 10 or 12, around in there someplace. I am just guessing here, but somehow I think they got the downs over how they are dealt with by their coach.

Maybe I am all wet here. Don't know, but now there is this story that Tony Sheffler got benched yesterday and was told he had an "attitude problem" or something to that effect (he was told last Wednesday).

Sure he probably does have an attitude. I would have one too after all the disappointing performances and personnel choices, play choices and all that. Wouldn't YOU have one too? Why do you think Sheffler was the bad boy?

Well, according to the Denver Post, he had expressed to the team a bit of frustration to several teammates over the loss to the Eagles the Sunday before, and somehow this talk got back to the headmaster, Josh McDaniels. Guess what happened next?

An assistant coach (unnamed) came to Tony and informed him that he would be warming the bench on Sunday for the game with KC. So us fans can't get into the private management things that McDaniels does, but good grief man, who can blame Tony for having an "
ATTITUDE"?

Just a few days ago, it was announced that Brandon Marshall pulled his hamstring. So then I saw McDaniels at a press meet saying something like, "Yeah, lots of guys are hurt and still want to play, and just want to win ..... (paraphrased) .... blah, blah, etc".

Can I be safe in assuming that Brandon Marshall did want to play, but pulled his Hamstring and felt he could not play with that big of an injury? Why on earth would Brandon Marshall be malingering? That is what McDaniels was implying in his comments wasn't it?

Ok, so there it all is, my circumstantial evidence that the team has been having a morale problem for several weeks and I just wonder what kinda stuff has happened that none of us fans ever heard about? Ya Think? Yeah?

Here is the quote from Sheffler:
"I'm a competitor and have worked extremely hard this offseason to be able to fight for a chance to make the playoffs," Scheffler said Friday. "Him taking that away doesn't sit very well with me or some of my teammates." Yes Tony, I understand what you are saying, I think anyway.

The key phrase there was " .... doesn't sit well with me or some of my teammates."

Think about all this a bit and wonder who it is that is not allowing guys to think, express and talk about stuff. Man I distinctly remember in years past when Al Wilson was expressing stuff to the team about different things he saw that needed to improve. Did ya ever hear about Al Wilson getting benched for that?

How do I end this rant? Well, think I will go watch my old John Elway videos man!

The End has Come - No Post Season for the Broncos

Unable to execute successfully, and totally overwhelmed by the Chiefs, our Denver Broncos saw their post season hopes drift away on the scoreboard.

What a terrible game and what a terrible 2nd half of the season. Oh well, the outcome is similar to what I predicted way back in March of 2009. I stated that if they were lucky the Broncos would win about 1/2 of their games on the season.

After the first 6, I began to believe I was wrong altogether. Recanted some things, apologized for some things, and joined the shouting crazies in the south stands for several more games.

Now I am sorry I recanted. All of us are disappointed with the outcome, and I still believe McDaniels should have used Tom Brandstater. He performed so well in the preseason game I saw him play in. Too late now. Josh would not listen to me on that one.

Recently I have been asking why the Broncos do not ever use a reverse play and maybe a double reverse. No such play is included in any of the Bronco's playbooks.

Now I am thinking I should change this blog to a Rockies thing. Or, maybe just advertise Bronco gear on the thing every day until next summer.

Willis Moves to the Active Roster for Broncos

The Broncos announced on Saturday that wide receiver Matthew Willis has been moved from the practice squad to the team's 53-man roster. To make room for Willis on the active roster, the team waived tackle Herb Taylor.

A second-year receiver out of UCLA, Willis joined the Broncos as a practice-squad signee on Dec. 24, 2008. He spent the final week of the 2008 season on Denver’s practice squad after a brief stint on Baltimore’s practice squad early in the year.

Denver Bronocs and KC Chiefs Sunday - Is this a big deal?

The Broncos close out the regular season at home in a crucial division game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Denver beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium four weeks ago, 44-13, but the team knows it's in for a different battle this time around.

"I think that the second time you play any opponent, the game is different," Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. "It was with San Diego. It was with Oakland. It is a lot of times when you see divisional teams play each other. The team knows you a lot better. You know them a lot better."

So the Broncos have prepared hard for the game, knowing that entering Sunday there are 10 scenarios that could play out for Denver to extend its season. The best thing the team can do, however, is go out and take care of its own business.

"We've just got to prepare to win and everything will take care of itself," Champ Bailey said. "We've just got to make sure we go out and take care what is in front of us and not look past that."

The Broncos would like to thank 7-Eleven for providing 2009 Denver Broncos team photos at Sunday's game.

The game, with kickoff scheduled for 2:15 p.m. MST, will be broadcast on CBS4 (KCNC-TV). Stick with DenverBroncos.com for continuing coverage throughout the contest.
