Kyle Orton Gets the Contract Nod

Isn't it amazing at the Denver Broncos? Just when you are sure they have lost their minds and tossed all reason to the 4 winds, they do a good thing. Orton got a very nice contract extension through the 2011 season with 8.8 million attached. Well, that should take the worry off his shoulders I would say. This new contract gives Kyle 3 years.

So there is no question he deserves the nod. He knows the playbook very well. He executes very well, and he does not allow anything to deter him from doing his job. God knows there have been many a distraction coming his way this year. So now that the news of such great confidence has been released, what will they be doing with those other guys?

Tebow, who also got a great contract, could be sitting on the bench for the next 2 or 3 years if Orton performs well. You know he plans on doing exactly that. Tebow might have to be a real good sport for a long time. Other QBs have had to take this route of being in the shadow of a more mature starter for up to 3 years like Phillip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers.

Of course, the other thing that totally confused me was the drafting of Brady Quinn. Why not just keep Tom Brandstater? I know, I know. I have always been his big believer and fan, but he is gone so why even ask the question? So, if Brady is number 3, how long do ya think he will be sitting there? Well, I guess he wants a paycheck so it might be a good long time.

As the season progresses we will be getting a better understanding of when and if McDaniels will bring in Tebow or Quinn. Maybe injuries will cause that to happen, but of course we never hope for them to happen. They just do happen.

Anyway, Orton will not get that money until next year. He still has to exist on the paltry 2.6 million he got earlier as a restricted free agent. Then the higher numbers come in to play after this season is over and the 2011 season begins. I do not believe he will let the 5.5 million guarantee cause him to be distracted do you?
