Broncos sign LenDale White and Waived Kolby Smith

White is an old Denver area high school star, a power back previously with the Seattle Seahawks. The coach of the Seahawks released White recently, and his coach there was Pete Carrol, who was also his coach at USC.

White is going to serve a four game suspension for some kind of issue around a substance he tested positive for, but I do not know anything about what it was or any other details.

White is a good power back who also previously played with the Titans. He is fairly well regarded for his work in the NFL. Broncos must be worried about the Moreno injury to bring White in, but as I see it, serving 4 games off won't do the Broncos much good if Moreno is gone during any of those games.

Kolby Smith must not have impressed the team too much during his recent debut in camp, so off he goes in favor of White. Funny stuff happens around this team doesn't it?

So, White is a good player, and his attitude has been very positive and all that since his substance suspension was announced, but why did Denver get him exactly? Did they take a chance on a guy that needed a break?

Seems the popular opinion that they are concerned about Moreno being out for a time can't really be why they picked up White since he will not be playing the first 4 games. Maybe they got a good financial deal on him and couldn't pass it up for the depth.
