Make Those Miracles Happen Again Broncos

All Denver Fans will remember this Thanksgiving game forever. After 4 straight losses, the team showed up all ready to play. Both sides of the ball, and special teams did their jobs, even though they did have a few problems (end zone itus), they still got the W and are ready to play KC. All of Denver will be watching the game next Sunday in Arrowhead, where Denver has traditionally had a tough time of it, even with more powerful teams in past years. KC is always tough in Arrowhead. Count on it!

The pure truth is that a 3 and 8 team playing at home will pull out all the stops and cautions to win. They have no hope of being in the playoffs this year, so they have one big job: Spoilers! I guarantee the game will be a rough one, and I hope the Broncos can execute well and play a good game getting the score on every possession if possible, and not get too many injuries. KC has the potential to do a lot of damage to the Broncos if they can get away with it. Denver should win, but we have said that before haven't we?

The next Sunday is where the big deal is. Broncos go to Indy to play the Colts on their home turf, so getting the win in KC is vital to their survivability. Broncos are at the top of the run for the playoff wildcard birth, and to stay there at the least they have to win in KC, and maybe they can sustain one more loss in Indy, but even that is not a sure thing. The other teams in the contention have to lose one too, which may or may not happen. If you were betting on this, how would you bet on it?

So, the heat is on the Broncos and it is a hotter stove than it had to be. Nevertheless, it is a stove they turned up themselves, and it is what it is, not what we wish it was. Make any sense? Remember back in 77 when they just kept winning crucial games with all that crazy long ball stuff? Trick plays? The song of that year was "Make Those Miracles Happen".

This team is different than the one in 77, but I sure wish we had the old "Orange Crush" defense back. They showed up for each and every game, and they laid waste on offensive lines wherever they played. Let's see if we can get a miracle this year shall we? Heck, the Orange Crush was so infamous it is mentioned in Wikipedia!

Denver Bronco Fans Revived and Relieved

Last Thursday's great Bronco win revived the fans completely, and forget the other 4 losses that came one after the other. Fans do not care, and they are not looking back. Bronco Fans always look forward. Everywhere I go I ask about their reaction, and they are all the same; Wow, what a game, and a relief too! In one form or another, that is what Bronco Fans are saying.

I just spoke to my neighbor, and he said "yes sir, what a relief". My friend on the phone yesterday said, "Man I am stoked about the Broncos ..... able to get back ..... relieved .... yes sir". All the same stuff, said in different ways. Bronco Fans are LOYAL, but they do not like to LOSE. They get CRANKY when the team loses.

What fans are saying is almost the same everywhere I go. Who can blame them for feeling that way? After all, there is only one NFL franchise team here in Denver, so where else to they turn if their team fails? No other team will ever do here in Denver and in Colorado. Much of Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico are also Bronco fans as well.

Denver Broncos are always on the short end of the respect in sports writing and announcing circles, and that goes even stronger in the eastern end of the nation. NFC teams are always spoken of as though they invented football, and their defenses and offenses are the epitome of football operations. In 98 and 99, it was reluctantly given up for the Broncos after the first Super Bowl win, and when they give the respect it is as though someone was feeding them poison when they talk about it.

All that is another story of course, and at the moment the Broncos have a huge challenge to overcome one game at a time as the season continues. They MUST win all games ahead of them in order to be in the playoffs. They cannot assume San Diego will lose more games than they will, and even that San Diego might not lose any games. Broncos are on the defensive for the remainder of the season due to the big 4 losses. That month they took off will come to haunt them in the outcome of future events.

All I can say is Go Broncos!

Too Bad about the Joah McDaniels Mic Being On

This story is hitting the headlines on all the news channels about McDaniels unloading on the team for their dumb mistakes in Thursday's game. I think this is nonsense for many reasons, but most of all the stupid NFL Network should have edited that out before the broadcast picked it up. Don't they have the 5 second delay anymore? According to all I know, this was not supposed to be eavesdropped and recorded, and for the camera guy who was recording it, he should have stopped when he heard what was being said, at least for the benefit of the young people in the television audience. This is the fault of the NFL Network and should not be passed on to FOX - they did not have control of it.

Josh mcdaniels: A hero to all real &$^%#*&!@# NFL fans.

"No, I have no idea where the camera was. I was just trying to do what I thought was best at the time," McDaniels said.

McDaniels, one of the most demonstrative head coaches in the NFL, stocked his roster with passionate players. He spoke earlier in the week about them having to channel their emotions in the right way after they lost their collective composure in a 32-3 loss to San Diego.

After blowing their second first-and-goal opportunity of the night with three false starts by three different players that resulted in a short field goal, McDaniels was livid, as just about any coach would be.

"It was frustrating to get down for the second time and to have some mishaps," quarterback Kyle Orton said after Denver recovered for a 26-6 win that snapped a four-game losing streak. "We had some pretty much dumb penalties. That`s been our Achilles` heel, penalties and the red zone offense."

The Broncos are accustomed to McDaniels` emotional sideline demeanor, so this blowup was no surprise.

"It`s great to have a coach like that, you know, emotional," Orton said. "We`ve got a lot of emotion on our offense. I think our guys appreciate it and thrive off of it."

Coming back from a commercial, however, the network showed a clip of McDaniels yelling at his offense and uttering two profanities that should have been bleeped out.

The NFL Network repeatedly apologized Thursday night and on Friday, the network did so again.

"We are sorry for the mistake last night," NFL Network spokesman Dennis Johnson told The Associated Press. "NFL Network will conduct a thorough review to ensure it never happens again."

Broncos linemen would be wise to ensure they avoid similar meltdowns themselves.

Against the Giants, it didn`t cost them as they rolled to a 20-point win, but during their monthlong losing streak, the Broncos` proclivity for penalties cost them yardage, opportunities and composure.

As for McDaniels` reaction to being caught on camera cursing at his bumbling team, the coach offered no apologies for his obscenities.

"That`s their business," McDaniels said of the league network`s gaffe. "And the fact is we went over there and tried to have a little bit of an eye to eye."

He wasn`t about to censor his comments to his players, either.

"We have wanted to get the W for the last month. So, this one gave us some relief," safety Renaldo Hill said. "This one let us walk out of here feeling good."

Amazing Game with the Giants - Denver wins 26 - 6 - WOW

http://www.reuters.com/resources/r/?m=02&d=20091127&t=2&i=20579404&w=450&r=2009-11-27T055915Z_01_BTRE5AQ0GN000_RTROPTP_0_NFL

What a great game and redemption for the Broncos in the eyes of the fans. Great game with 2 one hand catches by Brandon Marshall, 88 yards of rushing by Moreno, and all kinds of great play calling and execution all evening. The Broncos dominated the game all 4 quarters.

Who could blame Eli Manning for being bummed after the Giants' heartbreaking 26-6 loss to the Denver Broncos? Big Blue dropped its fifth game in the last six and are now 6-5 overall.
Cummings/AP - Eli Manning's expression tells the story for Giants

Kyle Orton was 18/28 passing for 245 yards and a touchdown, Knowshon Moreno collected 88 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and Brandon Marshall had 86 yards receiving on six catches as the Denver Broncos (7-4) ended their four-game skid and dropped the New York Giants (6-5) 26-6 on Thanksgiving.

Moreno held up his football after the first touchdown of the game. He rushed in for the TD, and I think he held on to it for emphasis after the criticism he got for the fumble last Sunday. He kept it apparently.

Matt Prater provided the only points of the first quarter with a 26-yard field goal and the Broncos carried a 3-0 lead into the second. Prater pushed the advantage to 6-0 with a 32-yard field goal early in the second frame and then Knowshon Moreno extended the lead to 13-0 with a one-yard touchdown run. Denver continued to bury New York as Prater added his third field goal of the game, a 47-yarder, and the Broncos carried a 16-0 lead into the half.

New York finally got on the board in the third quarter as Lawrence Tynes kicked a 39-yard field goal and Tynes added a 52-yard field goal at the end of the frame to pull the Giants to within 16-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

Orton ended any hopes the Giants had of coming back when he found Brandon Stokley on a 17-yard touchdown pass in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter and Prater closed the deal with a 24-yard field.

The Broncos defense managed to hold the Giants running game to just 57 yards and forced three turnover

16 to Nothing Broncos over Giants - first half action Bronco in charge of the game!

I sure am impressed with the way the Broncos have played this first half, and that is with some penalties and minor mistakes. They could not get into the red zone the first two times, but the third time was the charm so 3 field goals and one touchdown and extra point later, it is 16 to 0, Broncos. Denver is so far in complete charge of the game, hands down.

Very nice to see the Broncos of the first 6 games showing up to play tonight. Now it is almost the halftime and we will see if Manning can get anything. He has not done so yet.

Marshall made one really unbelievable catch with one hand - confidently - and went on to get another yard or so, but that was a big gainer that set up the touchdown. What a joy to see the game being played, and Manning getting shut down this bad.

That takes us to the 2 minute warning. What a great evening this is for all Bronco fans. Some changes have taken place and the they are BACK and they are RIGHT ON. I guess my idea to use Tom Brandstater will have to wait awhile, but in reserve, I still believe this guy needs to play.

Fans Barely Hanging on by Hope and Faith

When will McDaniels and Bowlen think of this?

Everywhere I go people are discouraged. During times of economic recession, moods are already mashed down, but add to that their favorite NFL team falling down and they get really cranky. Sports is dear to all of us, and is an important part of our well being. When it seems that all else is failing, we want our team to do really well to lift our spirits.

The fast and hard start did just that. 6 and 0 during the first few games, but after the next 3 games we were shaken a bit. Now the Broncos are 6 and 4, and we are all hoping for change. Does that sound familiar? Hope and Change? What can be done? Anyway, fans have very little to do with decisions on the field, but many people I talk to are saying the same thing:

Why won't they play Tom Brandstater? What is the reason to keep this talented QB on the bench when the other QBs are having such a difficult time of it? Heck, maybe the outcome would be the same, but maybe it would be better. Who knows what it would be, because they will not play the guy. During the preseason he looked really good and he is almost as big as Big Ben of the Steelers, but quite a bit more agile.

Hope and faith are strong attributes, and they are all we fans have now. We hope they will do better, and we have faith they will do better. Hope and faith seem to be all we have. Even the Broncos themselves are frustrated as you saw last Sunday when Marshall and Moreno were having that famous talk-n-shove on the sidelines after Moreno's end zone fumble. Even Josh McDaniels had very little to say after that game.

So we all wonder if those other guys are temporarily off track, why won't they use the backup QB who sits on the bench each game? Maybe he could get the team fired up and change the course of this season. I think it's a good idea, and I have been saying so on this blog, but many other people are saying the same thing! I am not the only one!

Play Tom Brandstater on Thursday evening against the Giants. Why not man, why not!

Broncos need new game plan - how about a new QB?

The sports news today is full of negative stuff, the likes of which us old Bronco fans hate to see ever. The big story is the bad strategy of McDaniels on sides kick, and Moreno shoving Marshall after being chastised for his end zone fumble. The whole thing seems to be unraveling at every level, and the Bronco faithful are wanting a new reality for their NFL team.

Game Today with San Diego - Test or Trap?

The Broncos have some hard road to travel on right now. Chargers have been playing well, and have equaled the Broncos record. This game is now about leading the AFC West, and more. The more part is what I am worried about, not the AFC West.

I heard that Chris Simms will be playing for Kyle Orton instead of the talented Tom Brandstater, and I wonder why McDaniels is making that choice. Chris is talented too, but in all likelyhood will never have the long term usefullness of Brandstater. Will we see Tom after about 3 or 4 series of downs?

I hope so because getting that kid on the field is the priority at this point. He understands the playbook and will execute well. I am afraid Simms will toss the ball into the Chargers hands or get sacked or whatever. He is a fine young man, but Brandstater is the future of the Broncos, not Simms.

Prediction: After 3 or 4 series of unsucessful downs, the Broncos will bring out Tom Brandstater. The score may be 7 to 0 Chargers, or it may be 10 to 0 Chargers, but somewhere in that scheme of events McDaniels will make the right choice. Then he will be able to see what he has on his hands there.

Chargers coming to town for Mile High Contest

The Broncos are back home for 2 straight home games after losing in Washington in Week 10. This week, the San Diego Chargers are in town for the Broncos first AFC West contest at INVESCO Field at Mile High this season.

The Chargers have won four games in a row since falling to the Broncos in Week 6, and now both teams sit at 6-3. The chargers have winning momentum, while the Broncos are struggling to get theirs going again.

"I wouldn't say it is a must-win, but it is definitely a game of high importance because it is a division opponent," Champ Bailey said. "It will help in the long run, but we've got to take care of business right now."

Broncos are hoping for the home crowd in Mile High to be the advantage they need, bolster their spirits and make a lot of noise during the Charger's play calls and counts.

"This is one of the loudest places that I've ever been, this stadium," Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. "We've yet to play a division game yet this year. I think everybody in our building is looking forward to the atmosphere that we're probably going to have on Sunday -- our fans have never disappointed us this year.

"We hope that we can provide the energy and the electricity with the way that we play."

The game, with kickoff scheduled for 2:15 p.m. MST, will be broadcast on CBS4 (KCNC-TV). Stick with DenverBroncos.com for continuing coverage throughout the contest.

Come before the game to Lot C at noon to join the debate, as for the first time ever, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is teaming up with Van Heusen and JC Penney to provide a dedicated fan forum to debate, vote, and voice your choice for the Inductee Class of 2010. There will be a live panel discussion led by legendary Hall of Famers John Elway, Gary Zimmerman and Kellen Winslow. Join the debate as the Hall of Famers interact with fans on who should be inducted. Then cast your ballot for a chance to win autographed items and other prizes. Visit www.fanschoice.com for more.

Who will be the QB Sunday against the Chargers?

BRONCOS FACE CHARGERS FOR 100TH TIME IN KEY AFC WEST MATCHUP

Who will play QB on Sunday? No sure answer yet, but I am hoping for

Tom Brandstater

The Denver Broncos (6-3) and San Diego Chargers (6-3) will meet for the 100th time on Sunday with the winner moving into sole possession of first place in the AFC West. Kickoff at INVESCO Field at Mile High is set for 2:15 p.m. MST.

QUICKLY:

  • The Broncos, who are looking to snap a three-game losing streak, defeated San Diego 34-23 on Monday Night Football on Oct. 19. Facing a Chargers team that has won its last four games, Denver aims for its first season sweep of its series with San Diego since 2005.
  • Sunday's game vs. San Diego marks the first time Denver has played a team 100 times in the regular season. The only team the Broncos have faced 100 times including playoffs is Oakland (98 reg. / 2 post.).

OFFENSE:

  • WR Brandon Marshall has posted at least 100 receiving yards in each of his previous two games. He scored on TD catches of 75 and 40 yards in the first quarter last week at Washington, becoming only the 11th player in the NFL since 1940 to post two TD grabs of 40 yards in the opening quarter.
  • RB Knowshon Moreno leads all NFL rookies with 591 yards from scrimmage and 520 rushing yards, which represent the eighth-highest total by an NFL rookie through his team's first nine games since 2005.
  • QB Kyle Orton registered a 134.7 passer rating (11-18, 193 yds., 2-0) in the first half at Washington last week before missing the second half due to an injury. QB Chris Simms replaced him and saw his most extensive action since his last pro start (9/24/06 vs. Carolina) with Tampa Bay.

DEFENSE:

  • Coached by long-time NFL defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, the Broncos are tied for second in the league in sacks (29) while ranking fourth in points per game allowed (16.8) and fifth in yards per play allowed (4.8).
  • OLB/DE Elvis Dumervil has an AFC-best 11 games with two sacks since entering the NFL in 2006. That total ties for the ninth most in league history through a player's first four NFL seasons.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

  • WR Eddie Royal handles return duties for the Broncos in addition to his work at wide receiver. He is the only player in the NFL to post at least 1,300 yards from scrimmage and 1,300 return yards since his rookie year in 2008.
  • ILB/FB Spencer Larsen's five solo special-teams tackles in November (3 games) tie for the third-highest total in the NFL.

Will the Denver Broncos please start Tom Brandstater?

Denver quarterback Chris Simms is sacked during the Broncos'
27-17 loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
(Larry French / Getty Images / November 16, 2009)

This picture above kind of symbolizes the current Bronco condition. Being figured out and overrun. Changes are needed to get the Broncos back up and running (and passing).

After the most spectacular season starter in many years, the 6 and 0 Broncos seem to have become the peat and repeat team of last year and previous years, only worse. Winning isn't everything is the old adage, but in Pro Football the thing should say "Winning is everything, especially if you have stopped winning". Now the ball is in another court so to speak. Now they are the 6 and 3 Broncos, but the consolation is that this is not the worst record in the NFL ..... yet.

Washington Redskins put on a real show of determination after the first quarter. During the first quarter the Broncos looked like the smooth team that beat the Pats and the Cowboys earlier. Touchdowns, completed passes, nice play execution and more. After that first was over, so was the show. Broncos were figured out. Plans to use the infield pass not working.

Orton got injured and sat on the sidelines for the second half. This after he actually shaved and everything. What is the world coming to? Orton said after the game it was too soon to say whether he will be able to play against the San Diego Chargers next Sunday.

Now I am not on the coaching staff, but if I was it would be time right now to bring out Tom Brandstater (future franchise quarterback) and let him learn what pressure is really all about. I think he can handle it just fine. Why not make the right decision now before the season is gone?

Broncos will you listen? Use Tom Brandstater and start the recovery now, instead of trying to hide him away and pretend he doesn't exist. Tom can do it, and now is the time for the change. I asked for this last summer, but was ignored of course. Now is the time to change the plan. If McDaniels does this, he will be the hero again. Simple solution!

What is happening to our Broncos?

History and last spring's fan predictions seem to be coming true in mid season, and darned if I am NOT happy about it. I have already eaten crow and taken back a lot of what I predicted in the spring, so now do I have to recant the recant? I hope not, and I am waiting until later to address that one.

Where did our winning Broncos go? Those Broncos from Week 1 - Week 6 seem to be back in the Dove Valley locker room, and this other team has hopped out on the field during the last 3 games. Who are these guys? They look like the other Broncos, but somehow, I am concerned they are impostors.

Kyle Orten's impostor got injured, and Chris Simm's impostor tossed for negative yardage and good grief, what will they do next week against the Chargers? I just want to respectfully suggest that they use Tom Brandstater and the rest of the real Broncos who have been hiding and see what happens.

Broncos need to find answers in a hurry during this next week or a humiliating season will be their future. Why not try some new things next week? I mean, the running game McDaniels has set them up with never includes a reverse or a double reverse, just right up the middle, and that is not working is it?

Spirit of Interceptions comes from Chicago?

http://www.insidesocal.com/tomhoffarth/3-stooges-football.jpg

Are these guys familiar? Remember when they ran that trick field goal attempt and won the game? Woops, I mean Lost the Game!

We all wonder what the heck is going on around here, and elsewhere. People who play Quarterback from Chicago seem to be tossing interceptions lately.

That Jay Cutler last week. How many picks did he toss out there? Was it 5?

How about Kyle Orton? Was it 4 in the last 2 games? Is this just coincidence? I think not!

http://ghostofhalas.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/orton.jpg?w=240&h=284

He is so worried, he shaved his facial hair off to kill the spirit of Interceptions. Even though Kyle is doing better than Jay, he has little consolation. Jay has already decided not to display facial hair, but may soon be shaving his hair off his head (this is only a rumor).

It is the hideous spirit of Interceptions, and it came out of Chicago. Why Chicago? Well, the spirit of Interceptions never warns in advance. We hope this heinous evil thing is gone on Sunday at Fed-Ex Field.

Hey, that is tomorrow isn't it?

Broncos and Redskins Sunday November 15

Can anyone predict the game coming this Sunday? I mean, this could be quite a battle for the Broncos because the Skins are down with a record of 2 and 6, while the Broncos are 6 and 2. The game is in Washington, and the Skins will be looking for a win. It might be a desperate kind of game with a lot of trick plays and going for it on forth down, and who knows which team will be doing this? I think it will be a win for the Broncos, but it will not be easy by any stretch.

Skins will want a win on Sunday, and they will pull out all the stops and play rough. I predict a lot of penalties will be called right from the beginning. Both teams may be having that problem, because the Broncos come off of 2 straight losses to the Ravens and the Steelers, and will be very anxious to redeem themselves. Could be a crazy and fun game too, depending upon how you view things.

I believe McDaniels and Orton will start with a running game and try to establish yardage against the mediocre Redskins defense, and I do not feel they will have to use every play in the book to do it. Depending on how the Redskins respond will determine if Josh and team will go to the air right away. If they can run, they will run. They had 3 interceptions in the game against the Steelers, and it was a terrible display after such a solid record up to that point. They will start out playing it safe.

From there it is anybody's guess as to how the game will proceed. Could be a wild one!

Monday Night Football See Broncos Lose Again

This was a second time the Broncos have fallen down on the road to perfection. Kyle Orton had only tossed one interception in the first 7 games, but last night he threw 3 of them in one game.

I seemed like the first quarter the Steeler's offense just could not catch on to the Denver Defense and how they were able to penetrate the line and make Big Ben toss early, or just fall on the ground.

Then in the 2nd Quarter they seemed to be getting better at figuring out the defense, and led by 7 to 3, after a defensive touchdown on the interception. So going into the halftime, things still looked ok, and I expected the guys to come out and win the game in 2nd half.

Unfortunately there was no such thing to happen as the Steelers were able to Dominate the game and do whatever they wanted to do, run or pass. Ending in 28 to 10 victory for the Steelers. Darn!

Ty Law will play tonight, but he has been off for 10 months

I think it is amazing that they signed Ty Law after he has been out of the league for 10 months. I am assuming he will pass the physical and all that, but he has to be eased into the game at CB while they put Alphonso Smith at Nickelback or something like that.

Tonight should be interesting for a lot of reasons. They will be playing at home, and the fans can and will be a factor in the game against the Steelers, who are coming off their Bye Week. Last week the Broncos got handed their first loss of the season against Baltimore, who pounded them bad.

Since Broncos are at home, and since Steelers have been off, this should go the Broncos way. All the outside factors are on their side. They lost last week, Steelers were off last week, and they are playing at home. Even some online sports sites are giving good odds on the Broncos for this game.

Orton will have to rely mostly on his passing game, as the Steelers have been as strong as ever, leading the league in rush defense at nearly 77 rushing yards allowed per game.

Ty Law brings defensive strength

The Broncos announced on Saturday that five-time pro bowl cornerback Ty Law has been signed. To make room for Law on the roster, cornerback Jack Williams was waived.

Law is a 15th-year veteran who played his first 10 seasons for the New England Patriots, before moving on to play two seasons apiece with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.

Named to the Pro Bowl four times with the Patriots and once with the Jets, Law owns three Super Bowl rings from his time with New England in 2001, 2003 and 2004. He has appeared in 196 career regular-season games, making 187 starts while totaling 835 tackles, five sacks, 52 interceptions, 164 pass breakups, seven forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.

Makes the Defense even stronger!

Can the Broncos beat the Steelers?

Steelers looked very good against the Vikings during the Broncos bye week. They did not make mistakes, while the Vikings made plenty of them. Spoiled their perfect record too. They are playing a tough game this year. Can the Broncos get it together and win that game?

Frustrating part is that we have to wait until Monday night to find out!

Before the season, Elvis Dumervil set his sights high.

“Hopefully I get like 16 sacks, so that’s my number this year,” he said during OTAs to some chuckles among the press.

But he wasn’t joking. And through seven games, the rest of the NFL is finding that out.

Dumervil currently sits second in the league with 10 sacks, and tied as the second-fastest player to reach that total – just six games – since sacks became an official statistic in 1982.

He has been a difference-maker all over the field, racking up 26 tackles, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups along with his double-digit sack total.

What does Dumervil credit for his success? His faith, his health, his work ethic in the offseason and some pointers from his coaches – but most of all, his teammates.

“A lot of people give me the credit for 10 sacks, but I know as a football player who has been a rusher for a while the importance of getting a sack and how difficult it can be,” Dumervil said. “It’s never an individual thing. You have to depend on the coverage to be there, you’ve got to depend on the guys to push the pocket up front, you’ve got to depend on the guys on the opposite side – so it’s a lot of collective things. I’ve been fortunate to be in a good system with a good coaching staff, surrounded by a lot of good players that help me make plays.”

If Dumervil has anything to say about it, the Broncos will win. He plans on getting a sack or 3 Monday!
