Broncos receive and Broncos release ....

The Broncos were awarded wide receiver C.J. Jones off waivers from Kansas City, the team announced on Wednesday.

Jones is a third-year wideout who has spent time on the active roster with Cleveland in 2003 and the practice squad with the Browns in 2003-04. The move reunites the 5-11, 195-pound receiver with Head Coach Josh McDaniels, as Jones spent time on New England’s active roster in 2008 and spent the entire 2007 season on the Patriot’s practice squad.

Jones played collegiate ball at the University of Iowa. A two-year starter for the Hawkeyes, Jones totaled 72 catches for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns in 24 games. During his senior campaign, Jones set an Orange Bowl record when he returned the opening kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown against USC.

The Broncos on Thursday released linebackers Boss Bailey and Louis Green along with safety Herana-Daze Jones, it was announced. The club also waived running back Kestahn Moore and cornerback Rashod Moulton.

Bailey joined the team as an unrestricted free agent before the 2008 season; Green played 64 games with the club since signing in 2003; Jones spent the final month of the 2008 season on the team’s roster; Moore signed with the team as a rookie free agent during the offseason; and Moulton spent the majority of the 2008 season on the practice squad.

What next for the Broncos after Marshal?

Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen met with Brandon Marshall at camp last Friday, and after the meet Brandon took some boxes of stuff to his car and left. What is up with all this? Certainly Bowlen knows Marshall is valuable to the team doesn't he? He is the owner after all.

Well, whatever is going on I think it has to do with money and a new permanent contract which Marshall apparently does not have. I think he is holding out for some money, and after all the money the Broncos have saved recently by not having to pay Cutler, why not?

Brandon has an injury to his hip that required off season surgery, so maybe he is telling Bowlen he doesn't want to have the team doctors work on his injury and give medical care until he has a contract and a raise. This is all just a guess on my part.

Bottom line here is that Brandon Marshall is a good wide receiver and we need to keep him. I am almost afraid to write about this because every time I give my opinion on what I think they should do, the Broncos do the opposite. So yes, it is true I am not being sought for an opinion on matters of importance to the Broncos :)

Why on earth would they let him go? They need him to catch the ball. He caught 102 balls in 2007 for over 1,300 yards, and he caught 104 balls last year for over 1,250 yards. He's scheduled to make just over $2 million this season. I think for the team's sake they should just fix this and get on with business.

It is too early to call this one, but the handwriting on the wall does not look good. Well, maybe we could toss some bones on a leather rug and try to read the position to see the outcome, or read the tea leaves, or whatever. Maybe the team plans on returning to the playoffs sometime around 2012 or so, I don't know.

What I have learned about McDaniels is that he is a team concept coach. He has sold Bowlen on this all for one, and one for all mentality, and if Brandon is grandstanding, he is hitting the brick wall with the new Bronco philiosphy. Is that it, do ya think?

I like Marshall as a player, and even the football commissioner did not suspend him any games for 2009 after his trouble again last summer (he has had plenty of trouble off season), so why not just pay him, give him a contract, and let the games begin in just a short time.

Kyle Orton has not commented, but secretly I believe he wants Brandon out there on the field to toss passes to. Brandon makes some really spectacular catches. Don't the Bronocs want him to play? I heard there was a voodoo guy poking needles in his Bowlen doll (unofficial of course) but maybe that is why this is happening. That voodoo guy is a Raiders fan.

The Denver Broncos on Friday signed center Blake Schlueter, whom they selected in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft from Texas Christian University. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Schlueter (6-foot-2, 279 pounds) played 50 career games (38 starts) at TCU and earned All-Mountain West Conference recognition during each of his three seasons as a starter. He helped TCU to a 30-9 (.769) overall record, three bowl wins and two top-25 final rankings (Associated Press) during his final three years at the school.

As a senior in 2008, Schlueter was a first-team all-conference choice after starting all 13 games and blocking for an offense that ranked 12th in the nation in rushing (220.2 ypg.). He was part of a TCU team that finished the year with an 11-2 record and a No. 7 national ranking from the Associated Press that marked the school's highest final ranking since 1959.

Alphono Smith is Making Adjustments in the NFL

http://www.denverbroncos.com/resources/custom/Team/2009/smith_alphonso_mug09.jpg

Rookie cornerback Alphonso Smith's college statistics are impressive: Seven interceptions for Wake Forest his senior year, tied for the most in Division I, plus 38 tackles. His junior year saw eight interceptions, three of them returned for touchdowns, one shy of the Division I record.

Smith isn't touting those stats at the Denver Broncos' minicamp. The second-round pick is too busy trying to adapt, learning the playbook and defensive schemes.

"I'm still trying to adjust and compete on this level," Smith said after Tuesday's voluntary practice. "Hopefully I'll get there by the time training camp starts."

With Pro Bowlers like Brian Dawkins and Champ Bailey in the secondary, Smith doesn't have to look far for role models.

"Once you see guys like Champ and Andre (Goodman) and Brian do things, how they carry themselves on the field, how they carry themselves in the film room and how they carry themselves around the facility, as a young guy you just need to watch and absorb what they're doing," he said. "Keep watching them, because there's something you can learn every day."

Bailey, for instance, has shown him the rewards of patience.

"As a corner, you have guys running at your toes, and as a rookie I kind of panicked a little bit because I never had someone running up on me so fast," Smith said.

"Just see Champ, how he never panics. He's just so calm and so composed every time. I learned that from him. I try to take that from his game, try to add it to mine and just try to be a smaller Champ."

Smith wants to be fully versed in the Broncos' defensive playbook before training camp starts next month.

"My goal coming in was to try to catch up to speed with the veterans," he said of the optional organized team activities, or offseason practices, teams are allowed in May and June. "I'm using OTAs to catch up and be able to compete with the veteran guys once training camp comes around."

50th Anniversary of the Broncos in 2009

You have to see the 50th Anniversary Videos and pick your team. This is some real good stuff they have made. Josh McDaniels has stepped into a great football tradition here in Denver Colorado. I wonder if there will be any films in future years of his tenure? We shall see! Read this, and take the link and watch the whole presentation. It is worth the time!

The 2009 NFL season marks the 50th anniversary of the Denver Broncos. To commemorate the past while embracing the future, the franchise is recognizing its community of fans who have been an integral part of Broncos Country during the first 50 seasons.

As a part of the celebration, fans have the opportunity to select their choice for the All-Time Denver Broncos Team through an online voting tool found at http://www.denverbroncos.com/50th/. Voting begins today, June 6, and can be completed at Fan Fair or by logging on to DenverBroncos.com any time. Voting concludes Sept. 4.

When fans log on to vote, they will be met with an introductory video before being able to select their team position by position. The interactive voting tool features the Broncos' history and highlights spanning the past 50 seasons through the use of video and additional multimedia. Each player is represented by their respective biography, statistics and photographs. Fans register their team choice through the online tool and become part of shaping the 50th Anniversary Team.

The players receiving the most fan votes will comprise the 50th Anniversary Team. The resulting team will be honored in person during halftime when the New England Patriots visit INVESCO Field at Mile High on Oct. 11. That game has been designated the Legacy Game, when each team will don their AFL uniforms -- the Broncos will sport their yellow and brown original 1960 uniform. In addition, one lucky voter will have the opportunity to join the 50th Anniversary Team during the halftime ceremony.

The web application was developed by the Broncos' online marketing partner, Akavit -- the principle digital agency behind DenverBroncos.com and BroncosCountry.com.

So, fans, check out the 50th anniversary site and start voting!
