Broncos sign free agent linebacker Nick Greisen

The Denver Broncos on Wednesday signed free-agent linebacker Nick Greisen, it was announced. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not announced.

To make room on its roster, the club waived fullback Andrew Pinnock.

Greisen is an eighth-year player who joins the Broncos after stints with Baltimore, Jacksonville and the New York Giants. He entered the NFL with the Giants as a fifth-round selection (152nd overall) in the 2002 NFL Draft from the University of Wisconsin.

The linebacker has appeared in 98 games and five postseason contests in his career. He has compiled 305 tackles, including four sacks, one interception, 12 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries while contributing seven tackles and four special-teams stops in the playoffs.

2009 Draft Results for Denver Broncos - Some Surprises

McDaniels wants to get the best player available on each go round, and certainly he did that to an extent. What seems to be missing to me is the lack of defensive veterans, and maybe one or two new defensive linemen to protect the quarterback more. Oh well, I guess his plan is to just have a very average defense and just dazzle us with his new and exciting offense. Now that Cutler is gone, there will be no need to protect the quarterback, so now these new guys will have to be quick to get outta the way of the big offensive linemen coming at them.

We are all in total amazment at the events of the past 2 months, including the draft. The one thing I do want to point out is that they picked up a backup QB by the name of Tom Brandstater, a number 6 pick from Fresno State. I remember that Tom Brady was also a number 6 pick many years back so maybe McDaniels is trying to duplicate history?

Here are the guys they drafted over the weekend:

Moreno from Georgia is a good back, and will hopefully keep the defense so busy chasing him that they won't need a great passer for awhile.

6 Picks Left - More QBs might be targeted

There are a few QBs the Broncos would possible draft today:

Stephen McGee, Texas A&M; Rhett Bomar, Sam Houston State; Tom Brandstate, Fresno State; Hunter Cantwell, Louisville.

The Broncos may also draft Chris Baker, Hampton at Nose Tackle

Josh McDaniels talking about Day 1 Picks

McDaniels on the trade for Alphonso Smith:

"If you feel like he's really worthy of a selection that maybe you would have made sometime in the first round this year, then I think you stick to your evaluation of the player," McDaniels said. "We don't care what anybody else rated that player as, or valued that player as. The only thing that mattered to us was how we saw him."

McDaniels must build up his Bronco defense

Now that the new Bronco has weakened his new offense with no great QB in place, his emphasis must be on making a wall of defense that can stop the other teams to give whatever new rookie QB he can find more scoring opportunities.

Instead of spending so much time on getting rid of great players, he should have been attempting to obtain some Defensive Giants, and some very experienced veterans for the line to become a real defensive TEAM.

With picks No. 12 and No. 18, the Broncos have a great opportunity to draft two players who fit the 3-4 mold and can make an impact immediately.

Guys such as Tyson Jackson of LSU, B.J. Raji of Boston College, Rey Maualuga of Southern Cal and Brian Orakpo of Texas can make the Broncos better now.

Getting Sanchez into a Broncos uniform wouldn’t be easy — or cheap. There are just too many teams interested in Sanchez for him to come in at numbe 12. Likely he will be snached up by a team earlier.

Broncos have a chance to at least come out at 8 and 8 this year with some wise draft picks. Let's hope McDaniels has another migraine that day and the remainder of Bronco management can get the job done.

Broncos will workout Sanchez in Los Angeles

Who will replace Cutler as QB? Could it be MARK SANCHEZ?

The Broncos say they like newly acquired quarterback Kyle Orton, but members of the coaching staff are flying to Los Angeles Tuesday to put USC quarterback Mark Sanchez through a private workout — five days before the draft. Sanchez is regarded among the top two quarterbacks in the draft, along with Georgia’s Matthew Stafford.

Stafford is expected to be selected by Detroit with the first overall pick but even if he is not, the Broncos could favor Sanchez, whose stock, based on recent conversations, could make him a top-five draft pick. The Broncos have the No. 12 and No. 18 overall picks and could use one of those to move up into the front end of the draft, where they likely would find some takers who want to move back, for economic and player value reasons.

News Extra - McDaniels too sick to go to workout with Sanchez

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels won’t be able to make the trip to the Los Angeles area to work out USC QB Mark Sanchez, according to The Denver Post.

McDaniels became ill on Monday night and instead will send offensive coordinator Mike McCoy to accompany Broncos general manager Brian Xanders to the workout. McCoy and Xanders will work out Sanchez this morning at his alma mater, Mission Viejo High School.

Sports Columnist is Defensive - Wonder Why?

I have said I would not write anymore about the Cutler/McDaniels controversy, and I won't. This columnist said something in Sunday's paper that caught my eye and kind of made me a bit irritated. He said "get over yourself" in regards to the loss of Cutler, and how the fans are still feeling. He can write what he wants, but the fans are still angry that the team has no franchise QB.

Here's the core problem for Broncomaniacs. They don't know their quarterback, don't know their coach and don't know their team's identity, which gives fans their highest anxiety level in at least 25 years.

No Jay Cutler, no Mike Shanahan and no clue what to expect has created deep discomfort in Broncos Nation.

Well, here's a message from inside Dove Valley to every last one of the doubters and worry-warts:

Get over yourself.

"I know some people aren't happy with the whole Cutler situation, but that's over with. If you're a fan of this team, be a fan of this team," new Broncos running back LaMont Jordan said Saturday.

"When all is said and done, winning heals all. So, right now it's April; I'm not concerned with what people have to say. I'm not concerned with any of that. When the season starts, that's when people will know what our identity is. And, if you want to know what our identity is going to be, just watch the Patriots."

Like this guy says in the column, "Winning heals All". I sort of agree, but knowing how this works and being a long time Bronco fan I am seeing the beginning of the end for McDaniels. He simply HAS to win or he will be back running an offense in N E or somewhere else.

Sunday, April 19, 2009
Registration: 11 a.m.
Auditions begin: 12 noon
Preliminary auditions will consist of an “Across the Floor” routine which is four eight counts in length. It will have a right and left kick, a turn (single, double or triple option) and a split leap, along with simple choreography. This will be taught on the spot and performed in groups of three. After everyone has performed, we will select 100 participants that will go on to the second half of the day.

Round Two allows us to see the 100 participants perform a routine similar to one the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders perform on the field during games. You will be taught a routine that is approximately ten eight counts in length (1 minute) and after several run throughs, you will perform for the judges in groups of three. At the end of Round 2, approximately 60 finalists will be selected.

Tuesday, April 21st, Thursday, April 23rd, Tuesday April 28th and Thursday, April 30th
The 60 finalists will be divided into two groups of 30 and scheduled for either Tuesday nights or Thursday nights for their Finalist Workshops. The Workshops will be held in the Cheerleader rehearsal room at the stadium. Each finalist will be required to wear a black spandex workout top and black spandex shorts. You may wear nylons under your shorts and dance shoes are recommended rather than tennis shoes. At the finalist workshop we will be looking at flexibility, across the floor technique, kicks, turns and you will also learn routines that will be performed at the finals on Saturday, May 2nd.

Saturday, May 2, 2009 - 6:00 p.m.
Finals of the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders Auditions will be open to the public and held at the University of Denver Davis Auditorium Theater. Tickets for this event will go on sale mid-March. More detailed information will be distributed to our 60 finalists on Sunday, April 19th. Please call the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders office if you have specific questions 720-258-3181.

The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders is one of the premier teams in professional cheerleading. Since 1993, our team has traveled to Japan, Australia, Mexico City, Spain, Italy, Cuba, Egypt, Afghanistan, Iraq, Canada, not to mention Calendar photo shoots to Aspen, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and the Rivera Maya. In 2006, our team donated over 1400 hours to charity events throughout Colorado. There are many opportunities available to members of this team, but the most exciting is being on the sidelines cheering for our Denver Broncos.

  The Broncos have publicly supported new QBs Kyle Orton and Chris Simms, but that won?t stop them from evaluating USC?s Mark Sanchez. The Denver Post, citing a league source, reports that Broncos coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Brian Xanders will bring in Sanchez for a workout Tuesday.

Reply to Pat Bowlen's Letter to the Fans

Today Pat Bowlen wrote a letter to soothe the fans. Many of you may think this letter is great, but I do not. I feel Mr. Bowlen is just side stepping the bad moves his new coach made in the beginning of this controversy in losing Cutler to Chicago. He makes no mention in his letter of the things that led up to the problem, which of course were done wrong from the start.

Way back there now by a few weeks, McDaniels attempted to trade Cutler for his own selfish reasons. He wanted Cassel, because he knows him well and wanted to get rid of Cutler and it did not work out for him. Those actions do not go along with what Mr. Bowlen said in his letter where he is trying to represent himself and McDaniels as Saints in the matter.

Anyway, I am tired of this stupid deal. I am very happy Cutler has a home to go to where they are looking forward to him being there, and I am also happy McDaniels did not get Cassel. I do not wish this guy well, but I do wish the team well. I am not going to write about this anymore.
