What about those Broncos huh?

New injuries plague the Broncos, just in the pre-season. What a bad situation for the new head coach. With 2 QBs out, there is one remaining option that he really should use, but somehow I am almost afraid to mention this idea on the blog because every time I toss out an idea on this blog, McDaniels does the opposite. What about Tom Brandstater?

Here are some excerpts from the media meet with Josh McDaniels Tuesday:

On if QB Kyle Orton will be ready for the regular season opener at Cincinnati
"I don't know that. I am hopeful we will have all of our players ready to go on opening day. Again, the timetable for that, I would be totally guessing and (would be) probably wrong if I started guessing about that kind of stuff right now."

On QB Tom Brandstater's performance at practice today
"Tom did well. He is getting better every day. He is a mature kid. He has really picked up some of the things that sometimes take quarterbacks longer to do: run the huddle, get the formations lined up and all that kind of stuff. It seems to have been an easy transition for him to do that. Now, it comes down to playing and throwing and being accurate. He had a really nice red-area period against the defense today, where he completed, I think, 9-out-of-10. He is getting better every day and that is what we like to see out of our young guys."

I think he is going to have to use Tom Brandstater

What choice will he have? Tom can do it, and I predict he will be a franchise QB in the coming months and years.

Mike Rice says in his blog:
Quarterback Kyle Orton hurt his finger against the Bears. Guard Chris Kuper came out of that game with a leg injury. Wide receiver Jabar Gaffney didn’t play against Chicago because of what some reports are calling a thumb injury. Back-up quarterback Chris Simms is trying to recover from an ankle injury. Running back Knowshon Moreno is getting his banged up knee back to full strength.

So why is no one talking about Tom? Adam Schefter talked on KOA the Ride Home with Dave Logan Monday and he mentioned the fact that Tom Brandstater's contribution in Sunday's game was the "bright spot of the game" (paraphrased) or something to that effect. I agree. Tom is the guy, and circumstances may prevail that force McDaniels to use him, even though he is not mentioned.

This new head coach is some kind of enigma isn't he? By the way, I predicted on this blog that Jay Cutler and the Bears would win that game, and I did that way back in the spring. I am too lazy to look for it, but I was very critical of the things the new head coach did. What else is he going to do if the other QBs are broken? Will he rent a QB instead of using Tom?
