Josh McDaniels created a completely new defense for Broncos
This guy came in and decided to toss out the old defensive formations and schemes, and rebuilt one of his own. He hired Mike Nolan as defensive coordinator and Mike brought the new 3-4 formation.
So far this defensive formation has worked very well, and is making Denver a respected team again, as they lead the league in several stats (points allowed (6.5) and yards per game (253.5).
I know there is more to it than just this one thing, but before Mike Shanahan got the boot, the Denver defense was little more than a joke in the sports world. All I, or anyone can say at this point is that McDaniels did the right thing.
I am not a big fan of the way Josh handled the team, the media and the players last spring, but at this point I have to admit he seems to know what he is doing. I just hope the Brandon Marshall controversy goes away and he can fit in and play every week.
One of the most amazing aspects of last Sunday's game was the performance of Elvis Dumervil. That was his first day in the Outside Linebacker slot, and he was outstanding with 4 sacks on the day.
Can we now say that McDaniels and Nolan know what they are doing? Man I hope and pray for weekly improvements on offense and defense, and who knows how far they can go?
Look at the performance of Andra Davis, who has fit in to the team as well as anyone can. He leads the team with 19 tackles and isn't it simply astounding that 10 of those tackles were during the game with the Browns? That was his former team!
Let's give the team some credit and the coaches too. So far this thing is working, and I am the first to admit that I did not see it coming. Kudos to these guys for working hard on the new 3-4 scheme!
